a land shark?

Ace has been called a "land shark" twice, and though i know it's not a good thing but does any one know what it means? Are they trying to say he's as dangerous as a shark or am i missing something?

Assunkkensatt 10-05-2010 09:19 PM

LOL. Yes that is what they are trying to say. Either that or you forgot to remove his dorsal fin when you took him outside for a walk.

I jokingly call my dogs land sharks in the house. Every time I got into the kitchen to cook meat the Jaws theme plays as I watch them dogs stalk their way in there in hopes of scraps.

But yeah, I have heard people call Pits land sharks because they think of them like Great White Sharks. Always eating or mating.http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.png

Jake gets called a land shark all the time. Mainly because when he yawns those jaws and teeth look like your looking into the mouth of a great white.

For whatever reason he thinks he is supposed to be right up in my face when he yawns.

The routine is Kiss, kiss, kiss, yawn, kiss, kiss....

But I think a lot of people call them that because of the reputation of the breed.

Get used to it
Land shark
Furry alligator
jaws with locking mechanism
all other nonsense
It comes as a bonus when owning these dogs http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

I call my cat a land shark because he's always trying to find food to steal and he's been known to attack people for pork chops. I'm a vegetarian, so I'm safe. Others are forewarned.

StivRichardOff 10-05-2010 11:08 PM

I've actually only heard land shark referring to one of the techs chihuahuas. You couldn't walk past that cage without that tiny thing trying to attack you.

fudelholf 10-05-2010 11:35 PM

also heard man eating shark and i also heard piranha too. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.pnghttp://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/no2.gif

I get so many dumbass comments but I have never heard that before.
People should really think before they speak. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

Some guys came to my moms' today, I came running around (from the side of the yard) to see what Bransen was barking about.
One of the guys, magazine salesmen, says "Is he going to eat me?" http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.png
"I sure hope so!" http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

I was just walking Puck and two little girls (maybe 11) called me over and asked if they could pet him so I said of course (since we're still introducing him to the non scary ones lol) and one said very sweetly after asking what breed he was that some kids at school say they're really bad dogs. She sounded sad about it (or maybe it was just that Puck had his tongue in her mouth).

I told her there's a lot more bad owners than there are bad dogs but like with people some dogs just can't help the way they were born (yes I give 11 year olds philosophy lessons on the street).

Sharks are notoriously cowards so its actually quite insulting.

klubneras 12-05-2010 09:12 PM

At the clinic, we refer to annoying small dogs determined to bite your fingers (or more) off as "land sharks". I'm not sure what others mean the term to be, but for us, it's a negative one and it means no vet or tech wants to go in the room and deal with an animal we'd rather give a shot of pink juice to versus just vaccinating it.

Yfclciak 12-05-2010 10:22 PM

"Land shark" isn't breed-specific. We use the term in the German Shepherd world, too. It generally means, in the GSD world, a mouthy puppy or dog. When it pertains to a dog, it generally has to do with Schutzhund or working dogs. Working line GSD puppies are known to be incredibly mouthy...that's why they get deemed "land sharks."

Grimm just gets deemed, "goofy handsome boy."
