I've mentioned my upstairs neighbor has a DA rottie. He's super lovable and sweet and fine with people. I even got to handle and walk him yesterday and he is a big cuddlebear. Still he eats dogs (well technically he picks them up, shakes them, snaps their neck and is done with them). He's killed two and attacked a few others (they were all off leash and ran at him) and he's tried to maul a cow. He hates all other animals.
I had Puck out on the spring pole in the backyard which Blizzard (rottie) has a window to look out toward (he has his own room lol). So he barks sometimes, no big deal. I brought Puck back in because it started to rain and Blizzard kept barking. So I open the building's front door and there he is (all 160 pounds-he's overweight-of him) Coming down the stairs right at us. I seriously out loud said OH S**T! Thankfully the dog is old and slow but even so my heart stopped for a second. I opened my door and closed it behind me (and locked it, in case, I dunno, he knows how to open doors lol) and put Puck in his crate. Went back out (sidled through my cracked open door) and gave him a little lecture on how he needs to stay in his house-he greeted me like his long lost best friend and like he had already forgotten he was at my door in search of a dog to kill. ![]() Took him (slowly, his joints are bad) upstairs and closed him in. Dunno where his owner was, I'll ask him later to be more careful with the door but god that scared me even though the dog was going about .0001 mph down the steps. My neighbor and I are very conscientious about each others dog walking times, etc. and I always double check he isn't out if I need to be but yikes. Will have to peek into the front hall now and make sure there are no bears on the stairs. |

Yeah I had a moment of panic and considered barricading the door lol. I think the neighbor just left his door wide open as he was moving something upstairs. I guess I have to be everyone's mommy.
This dog is so wide you could have a picnic on his back but he's otherwise healthy and old (almost 9) so his owner is kind of like well I will let him eat as much as he wants and enjoy the last few years of his life. That's scary... Just because he's old doesn't mean much. My 14yo shepherd put up a very good fight with a 2 year old bulldog... Lucky you two got in quick! |

I'd come back with "He'd have a few more, less painful, years if you weren't over feeding him... " I just saw him, his brother had taken him out to lunch after dropping off a new tv and some other stuff and he totally forgot to close the door. He was very apologetic and since this kind of thing hasn't happened in the 7 months he's been here I'm not that worried. Just worried enough obviously to do more checks before going in or out. The dog totally shamed him by coming over and flopping onto my feet when I went up there, dog apparently has always been aloof to everyone. ![]() |

Thanks Boogieman, me too! Thinking back I don't even think Puck noticed him but I went into full out survival mode. I probably could have just stood there another 30 seconds before the dog even made it to the bottom of the stairs, one slow gallumph at a time.
He wasn't barking or growling either (though he had been at the windows upstairs) but I have no doubt he wasn't coming down to say hi to me (though he greeted me with much love when I came out alone). Had to wait a while in the hall with him to cool off from his monster attack stair climbing exercise before I made him climb them again, poor guy. |
