Cropping is a personal asthetic choice, but remember, cropping started in the fighting ring, and people who see your dog will assume that is why you did it and that it is vicious. I considered cropping Darby, but decided that it was unecessary and might serve to perpetuate the myths about pitties and their owners. Although PROPERLY cropped ears (many reputable vets won't even perform the surgery anymore) are very handsome, you have to think of the type of attention you will be attracting to your dog. Do you want people to see him and by association you, as approachable or as a potential danger?

No, I think he looks adorable with natural ears. My first dog was a precious doberman named Niki. We cropped her ears and I told my husband I would never do that to another dog again. Both my doberman and my pit that I have now were too old to crop when we got them, and I thank God, because I'm not sure that hubby could have left the dobies ears alone.

I think you're pup's adorable. I love floppy ears, I feel it makes them just that much more expressive.
I also agree that cropped ears generally have a negative connotation in the public's mind. They'll probably perk up a bit and look less big when he gets older. So I vote no, but it's your puppy, and your choice. Do what feels best to you. |

He is only 11 weeks so there is a good chance he will have rose ears in a very short time. Some pups ears will not rose out until almost 5 months specially if they are playing with other dogs.
My female in my signature had floppy ears until she was almost 4 months old but she sure has nice rose ears now. |

While I like a nice crop, I've seen some HORRIBLE ones. I'd be too scared the vet would screw it up! lol Plus the aftercare seems like a real pain just for a ''look''.
---------- Post added at 05:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:46 PM ---------- I vote CROP! His ears are a little too big for my liking. Here is a picture of short cut ears on my male Dozer.. |

Cropping ears is a personal choice, if you do decide to crop your pup ears do it early, however don't be disappointed if the crop does not turn up what you had in mind originally, I've seen too many crap crop jobs, and owners complaining about their vet's performance.
Bluestark, your boy's crop is very clean, I like it very much ![]() |
