"she doesnt look like a pit"

My inlaws saw my Trina today for the first time. My father in law said "oh she doesn't look like a pit...". Like its a good thing... And then he said she looks like a german pointer. WTF??? Now I'm looking at her wondering if she is a pit bull at all... http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/frown.png

So many people think of the bullier style of APBTs being what a "pit" should look like. I get it all the time from people who just don't know the breed.

Well your signature claims her to be "pit bull mix" so that in itself says she is not a pit bull as in apbt, she's a mix. If she is mixed then expect her to look like another breed because the influence of the other breed/s in her makeup will dictate that she look different from a full pedigree dog.

People tell me mine dont look like pits, that they look pretty good other than not having big enough heads, or ask why they are "so small" all the time....both of them have peds that go back over 200 years...so yea.... http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/wink.png
They also think they are far too friendly to be pits.......
And ask why they act like giant jack russell terriers, LOL!

elalmhicabalp 03-30-2010 08:41 AM

200 years? I'd like to see that pedigree!http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.png

lol, it would be pretty long. My # is just from tracing back their lineage on online-pedigrees to the ~1800's. I suppose you could do that with a bully or whatever though as well...

that is true however the pittbull has quite dominant genes and a vast majority of the time there will be more pitty looks in a litter of crosses feel free to corect me if you think im wrong but before you do just have a quick look at my pics and check out the red nose

I see this happen a lot as well.

Don't be surprised people know jack about dogs, my friend's aunt asked me if I had a dog, and I said yes, and she asked me what kind, I told her a pit bull mix, and showed the picture of my red dog, she said it is not a pit bull because pit bulls are white and huge http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/eek.png
My friend told me his aunt lives next door to a guy who owns a big white dog with square head and he told her it was a pit bull (I think it was a dogo argentino), so in her mind pit bulls are white big dogs with square heads.

Omg people are funny

Cajlwdvx 03-30-2010 06:53 PM

She's still a puppy right? She could be pointer/APBT or cattle dog/APBT. Where did you get her from?

It's nothing to worry about; it's just an opinion. Just enjoy your pup. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

Ettiominiw 03-30-2010 09:31 PM

I wouldn't say GSP, I would say engish pointer mix.

Tyncneiff 03-30-2010 09:34 PM

Yeah I got her at the shelter and they said she is pit mix so who knows

Ettiominiw 03-30-2010 09:36 PM

She is very cute! I love apbt's and pointers, I actually have two english pointers.

Your dog looks more bully than pointer, but I could see it as a possibility in her.

Tyncneiff 03-30-2010 09:49 PM

Well ill have to look up english pointer just to see what they look like. Too bad I can't afford to have her DNA tested. Wouldn't that be fun?

Ettiominiw 03-30-2010 11:16 PM

Unfortunately, DNA tests are only capable of saying said dog comes from said parents, so they are really only effective in establishing lineage, and not discerning breed.
