Default Pitbull alternative
Hi peoples. I'm brand new here so cut me some slack.

I realise u may not like this thread or think it belongs here if so just ignore it.
Basically I love pitbulls for their temperament, athletic ability & versatility but unfortunately they're illegal where I live(I don't want a dog the Police can take & kill) so I want an alternative, probably cross breed (more unique & healthy).
It can't have any Pit, Tosa Inu, Dogo Argentino or Fila Brasiliero (all illegal).
Recently saw a Dogue Brasiliero that seems a good all round type.
I was thinking English Bullterrier x British Staffordshire Bullterrier but thought it might be a bit too short/stocky & possibly lack agility.
I was thinking of English Bullterrier or British Staffordshire Bullterrier crossed with something like Boxer(Dogue brasiliero style), Doberman, Rhodesian Ridgeback or American Bulldog.
Remember I'm looking 4 a good allround dog. Versatility, athleticism, temperament. Preferably similar to a Pit.

Why not just get a English Bull Terrier if they are allowed. Too small?

Yeah I mentioned the stocky, possibly lacking agility thing.
Plus I'd prefer a cross simply because they supposedly have less medical problems & would be more unique.
I love the look of them Dogue Brasiliero's (never met 1 yet tho). They were my inspiration

If it looks a lot like the banned breeds, won't it be in danger as well?

Yeah but this is hypothetical plus if it doesn't attack anything there shouldn't be a problem if its a mix of legal breeds. I think lol.

Where is this? That might help a bit. What dogs are popular in your area that appeal to you?

Me too. Boxers are also a very athletic breed.

Its all hypothetical.
I'm in the UK (i've stated the illegal breeds).
I like APBT's but they're illegal
Like British Staffy's and English bullterriers but would prefer a bigger version which is still agile with a decent amount of stamina.
I like the idea of the mix because I like rare dogs.
I like all dogs really, not just Pitbull & similar.
I'd really like a Ca De Bou but they're hard to get here
I also like the real Akita Inu's but they're also hard 2 get

If you like the idea of a mix... go to the pound and pick one out.

Never actually been 2 a dog pound. Do they ever have pups because I couldn't trust a grown dog?

sounds like you need to "sit on this one" for awhile...
get you some good scotch....
sit on your deck for the next several months each evening... get you some good music going... drink a bottle of scotch each evening while you think about this... understand the music should be loud, the scotch should be over ice, no water.... a good quart a day for the next few months while you mull this over, and you should have it all figured out....
and after that, if you still want a dog.. go to the pound and pick one out... by then you will have figured out that it is just a damn dog, not a substitute for anything, and you can enjoy your pet...
if not, keep up the scotch and music....

Show us an example of your ideal looking 'pitbull'. What sort of height and weight are you looking for in your future dog?

Not too fussed. Small to medium. I want it 2 be athletic like a Pitbull is, strong yet quick, agile with decent stamina. Versatility is also important but really I just want some suggestions what would you get as a replacement if Pitbulls were extinct?

I'd get a miniature pincher. They are agile, versatile and good guard dogs which you don't get with the bull breeds.
Or if it difinetely a mutt you want go to the shelter or but a designer dog like a labradoodle, I've heard good things about them.

Being a mutt does not guarantee that the dog will have less genetic health problems. Simply because if the two pure breeds that were mixed if they carry genetic deffects they will only amplify it on its offspring. You can cross a displastic lab and a neapolitan with bad elbows and eyes and you best bet the puppies will most likely have either problem. Also health testing aims at minimizing genetic deffects but it is not 100% guaranteed that all the offspring with be 100% free of genetic flaws.

You can look at Bandogs that are bred under strict standards with decent health screens. If you want to go the fancy route go to breeders that actually work the dogs in theirs respetive areas.
