Default I demand a DNA test...
My brother was here, and asked if I was getting Jaeger neutered. I said no, most likely not. My males stay natural unless there is an obvious temperament issue that stems from sex drive.

"So are you going to breed him?"
"No, you know he's got a weak temperament."
"So? You could get a grand from it."
"I highly doubt I would get half of that, he's never been shown or worked, he's a puppy, and I'm not chancing passing his temperament onto a litter of puppies and their puppies as well. There are enough german shepherds out there with weak temperaments."

He then chose a few choice names to call me, to show my stupidity at not breeding for my own gain, and the demise of this breed.

We can't be related.

He's also the one who said he plans on getting a bunch of bulldogs to breed. I got on him about genetic DA, and who he would end up C&Ring. He said screw that, he's just muzzle them and let them fight it out.

*sigh*
And think of how many of my brothers are out there? Who want this breed simply for breeding and the look.

And a good note, a gorgeous pair of bald eagle came by today

Well that is sucky, but I can relate. Once upon a time my brother decided to breed his Labs to make money, a true byb. Lost one of the bitches to closed pyometra, the other one escaped from the yard while in heat and was hit by a car. I have no idea how many puppies he lost along the way. He knew better! He was raised the same way as me in regards to animals. I like to blame it on his ex wife...it was her idea. Any way I am glad to report that he has come a long way since that experience and now has healthy dogs as pets and no longer tries to breed them.

Sometimes, family members can drive you nuts... half the time, I'm wondering how I can possibly be related to the 2 remaining siblings that I have living.

yikes. i'm glad my brother is a devout adopter and s/n....
even if he does hate my pitties, at least he doesn't contribute to any problems.

someone asked me if i had planned to breed my treacherous little biotch cur.
i was like "heck no, she's got a horrid temperament!!!"
the retort? "yeah, but she's real pretty."

He's probably right though. You probably could make a pretty penny. I know someone who bred their dog and used the money to buy themselves a small car.

And I always like to have males neutered if they are not going to be bred because I have seen what they go through when a bitch is around in heat. Half the time I think death would be more humane for them.

Sometimes... I think I would like to trade some of my relatives over on ebay.... but then I realize that pretty much everyone has at least one crazy nut case relative and I probably would be better off sticking with the fruitcakes that I already have.... well, at least that's the way I feel today!

I know, I've already had people prepose he made a visit to their bitch (one offer 800 because they thought he was a wold mix, to breed with their pit bitch).

I've never really had a problem. Had a male live to 16, outdoors, who never tried getting out for females, or even acted agitated.

I mean, if it's obvious his sex drive kicks in and start making him nutty... Well I'll wrestle him to the vets. I've seen what it does... Our SPCA keeps the females in the same room as the males, a lot of times a few are in heat and it's crazy in there.

And this isn't even the brother with the HA bulldog mix Thankfully THAT one has no want for breeding dogs.

Is she informed about puppy mills?

My neighbor went on talking about getting a puppy and said that it's best to buy from a pet store, so you don't have the puppy shipped... UH, how do they get there? Ever seen the trucks pull up and spill out puppies?

I took her inside and showed her a documentary on puppy mills...

Ugh family...my stepdad was the posterchild for imbeciles spouting the "pitbull's brains keep growing into their skulls and it makes them all snap at some point" bs, and one MIL thinks that all pits are horrible. I can't say that Sammy likes her, nor did she listen to her, but at least she gave a good example in that she always listens to me. And my other MIL...hubby's stepmom...well she doesn't breed dogs YET thank god, but she's the cat equivalent of a puppy mill, so much so that in fact I had a nice conversation with the state inspector about the condition of her cats and their environment. Hasn't made for good relations between she and I, but I was at the point where it didn't matter if she invited us over for supper anymore and was all nicey nice, the cats were more important. I always say that our friends are the family we can choose

My parents bred their chihuahuas about a year and a half ago. They did it because my chi was getting old and they thought I needed another one. I told them over and over and over, DO NOT expect that I will take one of those dogs because I DO NOT want another chi when mine dies. Plus I told them she was old and crusty and the last thing she needed was another dog annoying her (she was about as DA as they come - just small enough to not do much damage).

Needless to say, my parents have 4 chi's now - because they thought I'd take one, they sold one and wanted to keep one - so they got stuck with 2. My dad was hurt when I got Anya, even though I was always clear that when Sierra passed that I was getting a bigger dog. And when I got Zoey they were even more disappointed. I felt bad but I never led them to believe any different.

On a bright note, they got over it and my dad even told me how pretty he thinks Zoey is which made me feel good.

Yea, you can't pick family.

I tried but she just keeps saying "Bud was a good dog." She totally misses the point.

I thought it was "You can pick your friends, you can pick your nose...but you can't pick your friend's nose."

I have a brother kind of like that. Not so much for breeding, but totally into disposable pets.

Don't have that issue with my family, thank god. My mother did breed collies, but she did it the right way.Her sires were AKC Champions as were her dams, all were health tested too.My dad has 3 pets right now, 1 cat (russian blue named digger) is from the shelter,1 dog (a sheltie named wiley) is from a small rescue/foster,and my dad's other cat was a free kitten from a friend of ours 19 years ago(black male named B.B.) all his pets are s/n and spoiled rotten.lol

I have more rescues than anything here(3 out of 5 dogs,3 of my 4 cats and 12 out of my 13 birds were rescues), but my APBT was a ''newspaper freebie'' and Beep was from a local hobby breeder, that had a good reputation for her dogs.

i seriously think people don't believe puppy mills exist. 2 people i work with bought petstore dogs last month.
UGHHH!!!!
it kills me, too, because one of them wanted a small dog, and my MIL just rehabbed a 1.5 year old pug who is SOOOOO sweet- she rescued him from neglect and now he's beautiful and awesome! (and obsessed with little kids

My sister would disagree with you, seeing as she disowned me recently

I say breed him to some of your brother's bulldogs. You could make money, but a nice car and sell the rare puppies for $900 each! What a great idea!

Half the time I think death would be more humane for them. My male is intact and works around females in heat with no issues, He doesn't go nuts when the neighbor down the road's dogs are in heat or when we go somewhere and some idiot has their in-full blown season bitch there.

I think it is an individual thing, not a all male dogs thing.

Poioned- Why don't you just kick him in the crotch next time???? Thank god, my family isn't like that, not as into dogs as I am but they definetely don't think of them as disposable or want to breed them!

I would, but I don't think there is anything there to hurt.

You know, I think I should arrange for both of my brother to get neutered, THEY certainly don't need to breed.

LOL Jilli I think my sister has disowned me. Haven't seen her since I was about eight You aren't alone in that one.
