Default Say what???????
We had an inspector in at work today, and as he was finishing up his work we started talking. It started with buying houses, them moved to houses with yards for dogs.
He wants to buy a house with a yard so he can get a dog..okay that's good..... Then he says.. "I want to breed a Pit Bull and a Boston Terrier so I will have a small Pit Bull"

I was speechless... I just grabbed some paperwork and walked out of my office..

Some people are dumb!!!

When people ask me what my dog's breed is sometimes I jokingly say she's a mini pit. A couple people believed me and I had to tell them I was joking!

People have been doing this since dogs first became our friends. Almost everyone here crosses dogs for hunting to get all of the features they want because mixed breed dogs can be so much better than any pure breed for the purpose.

its different if your mixing breeds to create working dogs but its wrong if your doing it to make money

i know several people who have purposely bred mutts for hunting beagle/coonhound APBT/Am. Bulldog etc. nothing wrong with that IMO but there no good thing that can come out of mixing a companion breed with a working breed

Just when you thought 'it couldn't get any more amazingly stupid............it happens'

Unfortunatly,I have heard of this...think they are calling them 'pocket pits' or something silly like that. Yet another designer dog i'm afraid.

Yep, I was volunteering at an event (for dogs obv) and some moron walks up to me with this dog that looked nothing like a pit because it was about 10 pounds and goes "yea I love pits" I asked him if he ever had any and he said his dog WAS a pit and that it was a "mini pit a new breed" and then started going on and on about how prestigious he was.

That's dumb.

I know another "hot" new hybrid aka mutt is the Frenchton (French bulldog x Boston).

I still fail to see a problem. How are new breeds going to develop if people stick with the same old forever? If that was the case we wouldn't have the breeds we have today.

The thing is they aren't working toward creating new breeds. They are just throwing two different breeds together, and coming up with cute names, and selling them.

If they actually work toward an actual breed with an actual objective, then that is completely different, but most "hybrid" breeders just think "This name is cute with this name. Let's sell them for $800."

Perhaps thats how the creation of breeds is evolving. Most dogs don't have a purpose these days and if they required some sort of work to be owned, most would fade out of existence. I don't know if registry's are recognising these breeds because I'm old school and stick to what I know but if they are then its super. If not then I guess its just a play on words as said to sell some new mongrel.

All I know is when I was a kid, if your beagle and your neighbor's boxer got together, you had mutts, and you'd give them away. Now it seems like you'd have boxgles or something like that, and you can get a nice bit of money for them.
