Default Is this normal? - place for weight pull competition
This place (the weight pull in KS that is on the midwest forum) looked like the perfect scene for an underground dog fighting ring! There was an old trailer, a pit bull tied up out front and tons of plastic kennels piled up. They even had a barn than was 3x bigger than the trailer and looked like it would come down at any second! There was a mail box with the address so I know I was "in the right place" but it didn't feel right, so we turned around and drove the hour and a half home.

I mean are they usually in a run down type barn? Or am I naive in thinking they would be in a more "professional" setting?

Nope, they are usually at fairgrounds or something like that, at least, the ones I've been to.

One was at a Southern States.

I did a google earth map and it shows that there was another road we missed...but it really looked like some one's driveway and had at least 5 no trespassing signs so who knows. Maybe we were in the wrong place? Either way there were no signs for any competition/fair grounds/businesses or anything like that.

It sounds like you were in the wrong place.

But on another note, why judge the people on whose property you were unwittingly trespassing?

Many weight pulls are held in some pretty off the beaten path places. I've pulled at fairgrounds several times, but I've pulled in people's barns, back and front yards, state parks, bar/restaurant parking lots, outside Tractor Supply, in a couple weeks inside Tractor Supply and behind a school on a ball field.

Sounds like the wrong place, but if it isn't, I'd look for a different gathering and avoid that one. If it was the right place, it sounds like the wrong kind of people.

I kinda doubt it was an underground fighting ring..how did you find out about it?....I would think that an underground ring would not be advertising, even under the guise of a pull comp.

Sounds like you may have just taken a wrong turn somewhere

its these kind of empty accusations that get innocent dogs and people into a lot of trouble...

did you see a [ ]?
did you see any chewed up dogs?
did you see any REAL evidence that something illegal was going on there??

if you didnt answer yes to at least one of those questions then you really dont have the right to make an ASSumption like that

I have to agree with Budboy and Buddysmom. I think it's wrong to jump to those conclusions based on something that you might have thought were "stretchy".

Everyone get off your high horse! At no point was it said fighting was taking place. All that was said is it looked like the perfect scene for such a thing. Its this kind of jumping to defence when its not necessary which makes everyone look like criminals with something to hide. But thats typical of owners of "these" dogs. Always up to no good.

Because it's an old farmhouse, with an old barn and plastic crates piled up, they must be the wrong kind of people?

Would the scene be different if they had a new steel barn with colapsable wire kennels stacked neatly in the storage room? Perhaps a paved driveway would improve the look of the place???

well if it was the place they were having the pull they obviously werent about dogfighting, else you would have never known about and never found your way there, your just passing judgement on someones property that you were trespassing on,down here if your caught on someones property you wouldnt have the chance to make such an assumption.
