Default What the heck is a CUR?
As the title says, what is a CUR and what kind of people use that language? Ive seen it in a thread about dog aggression and in bloodlines.

In the way you are referring to, it means a dog who is not game.

It's also part of the breed name for a few different breeds, used for hunting. Black Mouth Cur is one of them; there are others that I'm forgetting at the moment.

By definition it is a mongrel. The way you are referring to it is a dog that quits.

Generally refers to an undesirable dog; i.e., one who quits, a fearful dog, a manbiter, a "mongrel", etc.

BMC and Mountain Cur are both breeds, as Debo said, used for hunting.

I think I spelled it wrong... CURR right? A dog that quits? You mean quit following man? Not game (with what)? A dog with severe issues? Like a wild untamable animal? Badly bred? screws lose? insane? feral?

–noun 1. a mongrel dog, esp. a worthless or unfriendly one. 2. a mean, cowardly person.

Origin:
1175–1225; ME curre, appar. shortened from curdogge. See cur dog

~~~
If we're talking about the APBT specifically, a game dog is one that does not quit in a fight. A cur is one that would quit. Cur is also somewhat of a slang word, so it's also used to mean any undesirable dog - a mutt or a dog w/ bad temperament, etc.
There is 2 meanings of cur. A cur is any breed of dog that is not a APBT and the other meaning is a dog that quits.
So while cur is used in a negative sense it could be used to describe a pitbull who will quit fighting? Is that really a bad thing?
I thought this site does not condone the use of apbt in fighting (game dog) If that is so, why are there people on this site using that language for a apbt.
In a historical sense a cur is a dog that quit or jumped and thus deserved to be culled or at least not bred. The site doesn't condone anything. It says it all over the place.
The site not condoning or supporting it doesn't mean that members cannot have their own opinions on the matter.
People either get it or they don't what is the point of explaining it over and over and over again.
The search function will bring up tons and tons of threads with every point of view anyone has ever had.
