I have noticed that in my short time on the board it seems some people think "they" are the only ones who should own the breed for various reasons (what are DOGS used for, whats are PITBULLS used for, HOW LONG they have been around pitbulls, every other owner is irresponsible, etc etc.) I am not saying everyone feels this way, just some people I have noticed. I will probably get a ton of personal insults for this so to preface this thread I would like the topic to be: What is your reason for belonging to this board?
I dont want this topic to turn into what you THINK pitbulls are/mean/think/whatever I want to know why you come to this board and post. I think this would help everyone realize we ARE all here for the same reason. I will start: I belong to this board because I want to know as much as pitbulls as I can from as many perspectives as I can. I want to help each owner with any insight I possibly can on owning a pitbull from my perspective. |

I came here originally to learn. I am still here to learn, but there are many things I have learned that I can help pass along, so, I am slightly here as a teacher (very slightly), and mainly here to listen and learn, and a couple members have helped me a lot. (Note: This isn't the only place I learn. I read as well, and go to shows, and try to talk to those involved with the breed.)
I don't believe just anyone should own this breed, and am not even sure if I should own this breed. As I have said in the past, if to protect the breed, and keep it from dying off meant that I personally couldn't own the breed anymore, then I'd be willing to make that sacrifice. |

I came to this forum for help with things that pop up, to have a group of people that share in a common goal (no more BSL) and deal with the same negativeaties as we all do. I also came to help others as much as I can, learn more about the breed, where I should not try to get a job and such things like that.

I'm here mostly because of the heated and controversial debate section!
![]() ![]() And because I can use potty mouth words! But also because I like seeing photos of everyone's beautiful dogs, I like hearing about happy tails and success stories.... I don't like the fact that there are so many posts by people inquiring about the most basic dog behavior issues...and they own pitbull terriers?? ![]() ![]() |

Came here to learn, and to pass on my knowledge to others. Also because I love the bully breeds, and want to be responsible in owning my apbt.I want to connect with others who also love the 'pit bull' type dogs, and communicate with them without the 'biased' bullsh*t I have to contend with elsewhere, and to keep up on BSL laws, etc.

They cut my hours at work so I have a lot more free time. Anyway,
As with the other forums that I frequent, I come here to: ask questions, gain insight, and discuss and debate various topics of which I feel strongly about. I like this forum in particular because while the majority of it's members have viewpoints similar to my own, they are generally open to a healthy debate. I tend not to frequent boards in which I am the odd one out and that the general attitude of the forum is a hostile one. I also enjoy the fact that this is a forum many of my "real life" friends frequent. |

I'm here to learn and educate myself a bit. I think people feel that not everybody should own these dogs for various reasons but it also goes for other breeds. Not everybody should own a border collie. I think with the hundreds of breeds of dogs there are it is possible for everybody to choose a breed with which they feel comfortable in every aspect.

I'm here to learn more, to pass on what I know to others, to get help with any problems I have with my dogs that I think members here have experienced, to talk dogs, since most humans you meet offline don't know enough, can't sympathize, and don't care for your dog talk. I'm here to stay because I really like a few of the people I can talk to here.
I don't even own a bulldog. |

I belong to a sport bike forum online with my bf, and oneday I was realizing how much i LOVE to talk/share/show pictures of my baby girl... and i realized that there HAD to be a forum solely for that purpose! and i found this! when i'm havin a down day I log in to look at everyone's pictures. I love that part, but whenever I have a question, or am interested in something... there is ALWAYS at least one person to help (and one to insult... lol) i love this breed and this forum has taught me more than i was really looking for in the first place!

I came here because I love APBTs and other 'bully breeds' and I do have a lot of knowledge about them but never knew about bloodlines or anything. I seriously learn new things here every day.
Someone sent a bulletin I think it's called on myspace to join here so I did. ![]() I am here because to help educate the not so educated and polish my knowledge on this wonderful breed. I had no knowledge though of some APBTs coming from game bred lines and now I do. ![]() I also came here to share my love of the breed with others that love them even though I don't have an APBT or 'bully' breed at the moment. I do work at my shelter though and get to love on them every single day and they are the best dog breed out there IMO. I knew nothing about break-sticks as well. ![]() But I feel I know enough and understand the breed to own one someday but I just can't with mulitiple dogs right now. But I am glad to be here. ![]() ![]() |

I come to the forums to teach & preach, occasionally I learn a thing or two aswell, which is always nice and also appreciated...cause if you think you know everything, then you still have alot to learn. Its nice to go to a place where others share your passion & dedication in preserving this glorious and noble breed. Its comforting to know that we are not alone in our journey with these dogs.
No I do not think everyone should own this breed, my idiology is proven post after post. However I still do not give up, if my preaching gets through to atleast one person then my efforts are not wasted. It takes a great deal of commitment to properly raise and care for this breed, if someone cannot live up to that then someone has to be there and point out thier short comings, and that person tends to be people like me. For every mistake made your not only put your dog in jeoprody but you also place my dogs in harms way too. When people do that then I will always speak my mind, I will not lose my dogs without a fight, and if your setting us back collectively then you will be met quickly with the bluntness of my posts and justifiably so IMHO. |

Initially I came to this board to learn about the breed, which I have. Luckily it prepared me for the fights that have broken out in my household. Never knew about breaksticks before I came here. It has helped me understand the breed, how they can be DA and why.
I am one of those people whom some may feel have no business owning the breed. I'm O.K. with that, you can call me fur mommy, etc. I give myself a pass, because technically, I really don't own a APBT. I have bully type dogs, but they are just technically "mutts" anyway. I have learned probably more than I really wanted to know regarding views on dogfighting, etc. Still, all in all, a good learning experience seeing how different people view it and why. I like to see the different pics on this forum of all the beautiful dogs. Other than that, I don't really know why I'm here. |

What is your reason for belonging to this board?
Watching new members an "epiphany" every so often...and it ends up being about a subject that you did not see "eye to eye" with another more experienced member. I have a good feeling about you and see more than a few of those moments ahead if you stick around... |

I first came here to learn about the breed & get advice on how to handle my dog. He had grown up, become unruly & my bf & I had no idea what we were doing. At first I lurked a lot & posted very little. And I learned a lot & my dog benefited because of it.
But in learning about the breed, I found that there was a LOT I didn't know about dogs in general, and this breed in particular. So it opened up a whole new world of learning for me & I've become addicted. I'd never considered myself a dog person before, but I sure am now! ![]() I try to help where I can, in the most non-threatening way possible. I'm no expert, so I can't offer advice on just anything. But I will interject where I feel I have something of value to offer. Plus, I really love the community here; that's what keeps me involved. I love the diversity of backgrounds & opinions of the members of this board. So now that I've answered the question of the OP, I will go ahead & address a few things. I will start: I belong to this board because I want to know as much as pitbulls as I can from as many perspectives as I can. I want to help each owner with any insight I possibly can on owning a pitbull from my perspective. I'm not trying to bash you, but I know that what I'm saying is not warm & fuzzy. I felt much the same way you do, when I first came here. But I'm not a very outgoing person, so I didn't immediately start calling people out on their opinions. (That's just me; I'm not making a value judgment on someone being different than me) I sat back & read A LOT. I think that because I wasn't participating in the discussions, I didn't feel the need to defend my POV. I was more able to sit back & try to understand all POV. Of course I had my opinions of members, but I kept it to myself. (Again, just me, not saying that's what anyone else should do.) But over time, I came to understand that most opinions are not so black and white, not so cut & dry. And in the end, EVERYONE is here for the love of the dogs. |

What is your reason for belonging to this board? ---------- Post added at 02:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:28 PM ---------- You admit you've been here a short time, and yet you think you've got some people completely figured out? As in everything in life, people will have differing opinions on things. You'd do well to try to understand it, even if you don't agree. And it's a sweeping generalization to say that someone says "Every other owner is irresponsible." No one feels that way. Everyone can name at least a few people who they think are responsible. 1) I said SOME people. I dont think everyone feels any way, because that is impossible. I know what people tell me their opinions are, that is all I can say. 2) I never said anyone was wrong, I emphasis that all the time, I say this is my opinion and even in "heated debates" I never say no you are wrong in what you believe. I have said a few ASPECTS I know arent true but never that the OVERALL opinion is wrong. I am very strongly against saying anyone is wrong for their opinions, because after all it is an opinion. All I do is contribute what I know and appreciate what others contribute, whether I agree or not. I have no "emotional investment" in others opinions, it is merely an adult discussion to me. I came into this forum with years of experience with the breed and hearing all kinds of opinions so no I dont think anyone knows everything, which is why I am here. |

![]() I originally came here when the forum was created. I was a memeber of another board that was at the time more geared to game bred dogs. I honestly now come to help new members learn and also lend my Vet med advice when possible. I honestly do not think that many people should own this breed. And that is one of the reasons that the breed is in the trouble it is in well meaning owners and irresposible owners. Yes we all have our opinions. However there are many experienced owners on this board and many can learn from them. And opinions can be changed when knowledge is involved. |

i first visited the website for a research paper i was writing about pit bulls and the bsl, but then i so enjoyed all the info and the discussions that i found here. i to don't believe that this breed is for everyone. i myself find that there is no other breed that i love more. i love their funny looking ears and long, sleek bodies. but it is the love theses dogs give that is the most impressive. i have an aggresive male that is alittle hard to handle sometimes but after alot of time and love he has became a great best friend. i hope that everyone learns what they can about these bully dogs and i believe this website is a great start.
