It is the designation that my neighborhood boys have informed me of. To me he is Carlos the red nosed american pit bull. so enough of the wise crack retorts and to my question... Carlos is my service animal and he goes with me everywhere, however, there are places in our USA that have legislated against his breed... so ... what happens when we go to these jurisdictions?

Im not sure, honestly. I'll go ahead and copy this question in out BSL Section and hopefully someone will be able to answer it for you.
![]() You can find your inquiry here: Service Dogs and BSL Question. - Breed Specific Legislation And dont listen to those kids, what theyre telling you is incorrect. Red nosed ABPT is far more accurate. ![]() |

I believe in the most places where BSL is enacted the service dogs are exempt from legislation, I would check with the local authorities beforehand to make sure that's the case. For instance, Ontario ban does not mention service/special needs dogs as exempt, but it refers to "all pit bulls and owners".
And as for the Gator Mouth, I call me dog "The Alligator" when she puts on her pit bull smile ![]() |

I am almost 100% sure its axemts...and now I am 100% my aunt just walked up to tapped me on the shoulder to say hello lol and she has a service dog so I asked her and she said they are exempt from everything like that, you don't even have to have a vest or documentation they do not have to make you proove it or anything. I remember reading something also about service dogs not acutally being considered dogs but more like how a blind person can have a walking stick and a person unable to walk can have a wheelchair.

Pretty much anyone can walk into any establishment with any animal and proclaim it is a service animal and the establishment can't do much about it.
You've seen the pics of the service pony in the grocery store? While some of these dogs are legit, many more are just pets that are no more service animals than my cat. It's not a very well organized system -- I've seen some very sad animals "performing" their duties. I just don't think they are very well trained by a legitimate organization... Carla |

Here's my reply from the other thread, I wasn't sure which thread to post it so I'm covering both!
You will also need to check with each state's law on service animals. They differ, for example in OR, no service animal and it's handler can be denied access to any building, however, the term handler is a gray area. Is handler someone who cannot fuction without the dog(i.e. seizure alert dog, guide dog) or someone who would function less smoothly without the dog(i.e. a dog who helps your mood). So check with the state laws. |

You need to go the legal route with your question.
I helped in a situation down here in Louisiana where a woman and her family were moving into an area with B.S.L. and her [severely autistic] daughter's trained service dog happened to be a "pit bull". It took a judge's orders to allow the dog into that town and area business and whatnot. I know we worked for over a year on the case and I was with her every step of the way. And no matter what we thought about "oh, they can't NOT let your dog stay with you", it turned out to be mere assumptions. Places with B.S.L. can restrict you and your dog if it is their law. And some places will require some sort of documentation even though we all believe it to be illegal for them to do so. This situation is kind of vague at best. Are you planning on traveling to an area with B.S.L.? Are you moving to such area? Are you just asking out of curiosity? To really get an answer, you'd need to contact the city governments/county governments and explain your situation and ask them how they handle such issues. If they deny your dog entry right off the bat, you may very well have to fight this battle in court. |

I have always traveled and plan on continuing till death takes me from this earth. So Carlos will now be my ever present companion and frankley will be carrying all the trappings a girl needs to carry. Or in my case... my tools, books laptop and water. So i am not asking about a specific local as much as a general how aware do i need to be as he and i continue life |
