I can't stand the term "pit." I hate "pitt" even worse. I guess it's b/c in my area only thuggy or rednecky people use that term. I remember one older fellow however who was actually quite educated in the breed also saying he hated the term "pit." But then he used it in his kennel name, as in So & So Pits. I was like http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/confused.png http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/confused.png http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/confused.png. But I didn't say anything out of respect for him.

P.S. - The pit pic? Gross! Couldn't someone put one up of Brad PITT? He's one of my favorite "pitts." lol. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

When ever people use the term "pit" I almost chuckle at them owning a hole in the ground. This drives me crazy. What is so hard about typing out whatever they are talking about?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE how this conversation goes, because in the tarantula world there is a genus of tarantulas that species in it are commonly called 'pet holes' because they burrow and you never see them...

So I like to tell people to get a pet hole in a cage to match their hole in the ground lol

I hope they aren't paying for these holes. Is a bigger hole more money?

I know it is inconsequential, it is just a pet peeve.

I sometimes will say pit bull, just because it's a "generic" term... I have APBT mixes... so for me, somehow, saying pit bull is easier.. but probably about the same amount of typing. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

dicemets 12-11-2009 05:12 AM

Why does it bother you so much tho? Its just short for pitbull. And it is commonly used. Just sayin.

xkQCaS4w 12-11-2009 05:23 AM

Like I said it is just a "pet peeve". Does it take so much time to type "pit bull" when you are talking about a dog instead of a hole? Just sayin.

I think it's common actually..pit, golden, lab, rotti..ect..I think it's normal to hear it said like that. I think it makes it sound friendlier myself. People wouldn't say my labrador retriever so the same as with pit bull..

i agree, a "pit" is an un educated abbreviation for Pitbull or Pitbull Terrier. people who buy these poorly/BYB dogs have no idea how much staffy/apbt/or ambully blood theyre dogs consists of. and its just a term that people throw around so they dont have to go into depth of what theyre dogs are. i mean as much as we hate it or love it. it is what it is.

That's what you got out of her reply? http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/confused.png I know people with papered dogs from champion lines who say pit. "I'm sittin here with my pit watchin a movie and drinkin some wine" That's a direct recent quote from my friend with a papered Amstaff with a Champion father and grandfather. Mom is papered too. Its a common term here regardless of bloodlines and papers.
