@APBTLover09 and Poisoned, sorry for the late reply. First of all, thanks for your concern. Really appreciate it. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/biggrin.png

Okay I had to place Dimebag cause as you already knew, he had aggression issues, I guess I stated his history a little in the other thread. He was beaten up and poorly taken care of. To sum it up, it was most probably due to bad brought up and I took him at 7 months old. He shown aggression towards people at 9 months. I talked to a professional behaviorist here and they consulted me about it. And I explained everything to the adopters. They had taken over the job of training with the behaviorist now. I admit I don't have the patience and I can't accept aggression especially when he bit my friends. The behaviorist told me it is some breeding issue as he is unpredictable at times. Well, the new adopters could accept him as he is and I am glad enough I don't have to euthanise him. I went and met the breeder just the other day and I find that the breeder has only one bitch (a home BYB) and has been bred for the 3rd or 4th time. I am saddened by that. It is unsafe for the dog.

Wow, long story. Anyway, the new puppy was for my mom. She wanted a companion in her old age. I'll be doing most of the husbandry, trainings and exercise, but she will be having the dog for her whole day. So, I need a well-bred puppy that I can train from the beginning. I made a mistake with my first purchase, I thought an older dog will be good, but I didn't do proper research about the breeder.

So, once again, thanks for your concern guys. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/biggrin.png

Personally-speaking, I don't think it's right to place a dog of bad temperament that is unpredictable with ANYONE. The dog will be miserable having to live like that AND it's just darn dangerous, behaviorist or not...doesn't matter if the new people really, really wanted him....it's not RIGHT.

Can your mom handle this dog? In all ways?

Yeah, it is a family decision. We discussed a lot about it. It's a family matter, we take it seriously as it is a long term commitment. I hope I don't make another mistake like getting a pup from a bad breeder/bad breeding. So yeah, my dad and mom can handle her.

I do not want to euthanise Dimebag if possible. Too attached to him. But I do constant check up on him and the new family.

Cuuuute pups!

But just because YOU are attached to Dimebag, doesn't make it right to keep him alive. Stop being selfish, honestly.

Sensbachtal 09-10-2009 05:32 PM

I am sorry.. Thanks teal. But I the adopters wouldn't wanna let him go either, from the way I talked to them and all. Just hope things straighten out after his trainings. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/biggrin.png I am praying everyday and every night.

Okay... I need...

... advice for some safety precautions when driving an 8 weeks old puppy for 4 hours ride.

I've read that this is the fear period and some people say do not ship puppies at this time. Well, my puppy is gonna be 8 weeks 4 days when I need to pick him up from a breeder who is 4 hours away from home. Any tips?

jeraveike 09-28-2009 06:45 PM

Make sure the dog will be secure in the vehicle.
Have water on hand.
Have leash, collar for potty breaks.
Have some treats.
Bring a stuffed toy for the dog.

exettybele 09-28-2009 06:45 PM

When We picked up our puppy which was 5 hours away we brought a little car carrier and made a bed for her in there. then I sat in the back seat with her all the way home. She cryed for a little while and sang to her and she calmed down and went to sleep.
There is no right way to do this but having her in a crate will keep her the safest instead of just having her on the seat. If you cant get a crate use a laundry basket.
Good Luck and post some pictures when you bring her home.

AngegepeM 09-28-2009 06:48 PM

Keep him distracted while in the car...maybe stuff a kong while he is in his crate or the backseat etc. Stop at least every hour!!! Cupcake pooed in the car on a 30 min drive it was sooo gross. Oh and don't forget to offer him water or wear YOUR seatbelt! LOL

Other than that....hmm...I can't think of anymore. Hope you have a good, safe trip!

We got Bailey at 7weeks old one week later we evacuated for hurricanes, at 8weeks she went on a 7hr drive. In that time we had only 4 stops and she did great, slept on her bed with her towel for most of the drive. The rest gave good advice, mix and match to make it work for you.

Sensbachtal 09-28-2009 07:20 PM

Wow, 4 replies in 10 minutes. Thanks everyone!! Yeah, I will stop at every checkpoint. Haha. Okay... They are currently at exactly 4 weeks of age. And it would be next month till I pick her up but I just like to plan things ahead. Haha.
