While I'm a big advocate for spaying/neutering your pets...I do NOT regret the 3 pit bull mixes I own. They all 3 are rescued dogs so I don't know their history or even if they truly have any APBT in them. I love my dogs and they love me. They're damned good dogs.

I just wanted to post in the defense of my 3 mutts since I was getting the feeling of my types being looked down upon. They all 3 are Loyal, extremely friendly, good around other dogs and humans and kids, can be silly and are very Loveable! http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

The 3 who I'm referring to are the ones on the right side of my signature pic. The 2 white ones are American Bulldogs.

http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/s...oodposting.gif My thoughts exactly! Except I only have 2 mutts that have APBT in them. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/biggrin.png

i thought the local SPCA was ok, but th ASPCA was hand in hand With the HS. not arguing but thats what i was led to believe this whole time!!

Local SPCA is just that your local org. some can be good some not so good each one is different. ASPCA is a lobbying group, yes, but they are a different group than H$U$ or PETA or any other group.

actifadepette 12-11-2009 05:47 AM

yea ASPCA is a good grp, they are totaly against BSL and state so publicly also they try to educate and have local events such as spay and neuter (sorry still cant spell this word for the life of me lol) drives at the SPCA (just the local part of the ASPCA is the SPCA). They do puppy training classes and local events of awareness and such, much different than H$U$ and PETA.

I love my lil mutt. That said I have to agree with what lowlife is saying. I do beleive that mixing so many dif breeds is part of the problem. If you think about it most attacks that I've ever heard it's from pit mixes. So my theory is who's to say its not pit bulls (happy lowlife lol) but in fact the mixture that is causing some of this to happen. Am I making sense at all. I feel like i've totally said not what I wanted to say but i know what i'm trying to say.

lol you lost me too, are you talking about how the "pitbull" is basically mis-IDed in most insidance and is really a mutt or pit/mix?

ASPCA may say they are against BSL but they advocate mandatory spay/neuter which is basically doing away with the breed so I don't know how they are helping the breed any. The money ASPCA gets is used for lobbying to get laws passed and none of it goes back to your local SPCA orgs.

ambiddetcat 12-11-2009 06:01 AM

What I think i'm trying to say is I don't beleive for one second the majority of a purebred would do half the stuff that maybe a pit mix might..except mine shes perfect oh and pitbullhappenins his are too cute to wreak havoc.lol
Now am I making sense.. I swear my brain went to bed hours ago..lol

xkQCaS4w 12-11-2009 06:04 AM

I think she is saying the same thing I said earlier.

Look at it like this, you have a hearding dog mixed with a "pit bull" the hearding dogs instincts are to nip at animals heals to get them to move, mixed that with a "pit bull" with fear aggression, now you have a dog that is high drive, high strung with a tendency to want to bite at the same time. Now mix in other breeds and you have all the traits and you don't know which traits are going to show.

Are you talking about mandatory spay/neuter for dogs they adopt out? I know they do that, and I am all for that. I am actually for none breeders, show, and performing dogs to be spay/neutered too unless they have a med. issue. The fact is that it would cut down on litters, yea you can say you keep your bitch in when she is in heat...but what about that bitch that gets in your yard when your male is out there on the chain when your bitch is inside in heat???? yea its not your dog, but your male just impregnated that female and that litter would not have happened if your male was neutered. I would much rather have a spay/neuter law than BSL any day, it cuts down on unwanted pets, and animals being PTS in shelters.... also do you really think that the spay/neuter clinics that happen at SPCA are not payed for by the donations of the public? If they are not where you are then ok, but they are out here when they have them...

yea I see where you going now, I think that when there is a "pitbull" that attacks a human it is one like that.

I have to agree with most of this

From my understanding the ASPCA advocates mandatory spay/neuter for all "bully breeds" as apposed to total ban on the breeds.

Yes the SPCA are funded by donations, but the donations sent to ASPCA do not get funneled down. The SPCA gets the donations that go directly to them.

ambiddetcat 12-11-2009 06:27 AM

Idon't think she means spay/neauter all. Least I hope she didn't mean that. Just ones that aren't breed worthy.

That is what the ASPCA supports. In my mind if you support the ASPCA that is what you are supporting. The ASPCA is a lobbying group this is the kind of stuff they are spending the donation to lobby for.

Well I learned something I didn't know.
