Default Shorkie pups?
Ok, my mom owns Shorkie's.. She is a very good pet owner, but somehow someway, her female was pregnant and we did not know it. She is a little thing and never even showed signs of being in heat. (she is 9 months old).. well today, my mother called asking to take my kids to the fair. On the way to stop back by her house to get a jacket before heading to the fair, they heard their dog making wierd noises so went to check on her. She had 2 pups. but no after birth.. so they waited to make sure she had the after birth. (She did).. now 6 hours later, still only 2 pups. She is doing great though. My mother said she does not think she has any milk though. The pups are not attaching on. I told her to call her vet and send my dad to get a puppy bottle and milk. Now, I have a question. Is it normal for small dogs to have just 2 pups? The momma is not in any pain or anything, but 2 pups.. I am worried, we raised Poms growing up but they always had 4-6 pups.. Anyway, for you pic lovers out there, heres a pic of mom and dad and pic of pups coming later tonight.

Mom - KARA (when we first got her last yr for christmas)

Mom (last month)

Dad - FRISKY

Dad (mind his hair cut, mom did it herself)

Its not at all uncommon for small/toy breeds to only have 1-3 puppies.

I hope everything goes ok for mom and pups.

Aww they are adorable ^-^
Our family has raised toy poodles & the average litter size was 3 puppies sometimes 2, smaller dogs tend to have a lot smaller litters & I think it also depends on the breed, so it sounds normal to me. Hope everything works out well with the milk and all

They are darling. I'd make sure Mom, Dad annnnd puppies are speutered before going anywhere so there are no more accidents from mixed breed dogs.

She had two intact animals and left them alone and is surprised that her female got knocked up?

Aside from that...those are actually some of the cuter mix breed dogs I have seen

lol. It was just a shock that she was pregnant. They never even knew she went into heat. Now, my mother purchased them for breeding. She paid a lot of money for each of them (it is the new trend breed).. Not my idea, but I can not stop my mother from doing such a thing. (she did research the breed and purchased them from a breeder) she has seperate crates for them and is very careful about them mixing together unsupervised. We think what happened was that they had their bathroom remodeled and the guy must have let them outside while he was inside working (they yap alot). My mom is very careful about her dogs.. she lets them run the kitchen one at a time and is they go outside at the same time one goes in the back fenced in yard and the other goes out front with the invisible fence. None the less, they now have 2 pups. mom is upset over the situation, but its too late, its done. (she wanted to wait until the mom was 2 yrs before breeding). Both mom and pups will see the vet as soon as he is available.. she is worried for moms health being so young.

This just doesn't make sense, so your mom payed a lot of money for dogs to breed to sell only to friends? Doesn't sound like a very good business decision. lol

Wow, how did they get away without you guys as parents even knowing they had sex. Lol. Cute. Please neuter your dogs next time. So how are they doing? Are you going to keep the 2 pups?

The only way we can figure they got together was through the man who remodeled their bathroom.

They are doing great. and I am going to keep them. I asked my mother to give them to me

What the hell is a Shorkie anyways? Small dogs have small litters, a lady in my town bought a yorkie not knowing it was pregnant and not experienced with breeding lost the mom and first pup, other pup was fine. I hate hearing of puppies having more puppies though, especially mutts.

Shorkie = Shih Tzu x Yorkie cross. I know a lady who has two. Wonderful dogs - a lot less...neurotic than a purebred yorkie, but all the hair of the Shih Tzu. Sweet dogs, but to pay a crap load of money for a dog you can find in the shelter because someone was dumb is beyond me. But they ARE cute. I just hope they're fixed after this. Truly. We don't need more designer breeds running around. Our local pound is chock full of "bugs" and "puggles" and "pom-chi" and other mongrels from owners who paid too much money for a mixed breed.

So basically your mother went to a "breeder" to purchase MUTTS...to breed these MUTTS to cause more MUTTS, when there are PLENTY of nice dogs DYING in shelters EVERYDAY? Wow.....you do relieze that a Shorkie is NOTHING more then a DESIGNER dog! A MUTT!!! You can pick up a mutt in a shelter and be happy with it!
