Default Wondering what others do when it rains?
I know this question might sound silly but Jada HATES the rain and will NOT go out and do her buisness when it rains, even a light sprinkle. What do you do about using the bathroom? The past week I have cleaned up many messes due to her using the bathroom in the house. I know she can not help it. I have put her outside and she hovers against the house and will not go off of the porch. She will not use the bathroom with me standing there with an umbrella over us..lol I don't know what do to other then pray it quits raining!!! Do any of you have the same problem?

I don't have that problem, no. I have a mud problem.

But, have you tried putting her on a leash and walking with her when it rains? You might have to stay out there for a while to get her to go.

Usually if I toss Veronica out she'll hover for awhile; but since I'm yelling "poopy potty; you're not coming in until you poopy potty" through the crack in the door...she generally gets the hint that she can hover in the rain unitil she does her businsess.

If it's really raining hard, I have to get her leash and an umbrella and haul her around the yard until she realizes the crazy lady ain't goin' in until there's some poop and peep action.

Yes, I have the same problem!! She will hold it and hold it... earlier this week we were out in the rain for 30 minutes, and this was first thing in the morning so I know she REALLY needed to go. I wouldn't even mind if she'd piddle on the porch, but no... she wouldn't do it. I finally gave up and decided to come back in for a little while, and of course she squatted the moment she crossed the threshhold. Argh!

Odie used to hate the rain but then all of a sudden he decided it was fun and now I try to keep him out of the rain because he runs all over the yard. And will get everything wet, thankfully drying him is easy enough.

Diesel loves rain and mud...I don't mind it myself...so out we go for a few miles. My other dog that lived almost 21 years, didn't like the rain and it got worse when she got older. I built a 36" x 36" x 12" box and grew some grass in it...placed it on the covered patio...and she would use that fairly frequently.

I have the exact rain coat that Lisa uses and my SBT Archie is the exact same way. he won't go in the rain and as long as he has a rain coat he will go, still doesn't like it, but at least he goes. Hope that helps. Oh, and you have to be kinda pushy and we always give praise when he goes and since we have taught our dogs to go on command this helps in bad weather as well. My dad on the other hand had a dog that did this when i was growing up and his solution was to tie him up out side in the weather. this might sound a bit cruel, but it only took a couple times and it worked and he never needed a rain coat. I am thinking of doing this with Archie because we still have to push him out the door even with his coat. I will have to do it when my wife is not here because she would go get him and bring him in before he goes. Anyway, good luck.

My current dogs are outside dogs and they don't mind the rain. Usually if you peek out of a window you will see them laying outside of their dog houses while it is raining. Yeah, they're pretty weird.

My last dog Delilah was an inside dog and she wouldn't like to go in the rain, but after three minutes she would realize the longer she would hold it, the longer she would be out there so she would would pop a squat then run inside.

Mine hate the rain too.. Im lucky enough to have a huge tree in my front yard and a porch on my back yard so quick "Go Pee's" usually occur under them when its raining. Have you tried walking them to a tree lined spot? Thats what I used to have to do when we lived in an apartment.. I almost had to drag them to the trees and only then would they go.

Bailey loves the rain and mud so we play. But maybe train her on a pad in the house. Only take it out when the weather is bad, so she doesn't use it all the time. May be confusing to her. Just a thought. I never had this problem My outside boys sleep in the rain.

^Tell that to my girl. Then come look at where the water drips down off of the carport. She runs for hours there and makes a helluva mess of the yard. Not to mention her jumping splashes mud and water allover my truck, but its fun to watch.

I am so glad to know that Trudy isn't the only one who hates the rain! LOL! Actually she doesn't even like dew-wet grass! She will pee as fast as she can then come bounding back in, jump on her favorite chair and start licking her feet dry. She will hold her poo until she can't hold it any longer and will go outside to do it then, but she makes it as fast as she can! She's such a princess! roflol!!

I've had quite a few fosters with ''rain issues''. I just sort of resort back to the same style of ''potty training'' as I use with puppies. Bring them out on a leash, have treats on the ready, wait it out, if they don't go, bring them back in, crate them or keep them on umbilical, bring them out again in ten fifteen minutes. As well, whenever my dogs go pee or poo generally, I mark the behavioir with a phrase like "Go on pee." I swear it's like brain washing. Say it enough times as soon as they start to go and after awhile the phrase becomes like Pavlov's bell. They will pretty well go on command.

Every Bully I know hates the rain. My girl has figured out if she runs down the steps and under the deck it isn't sooooo bad. LOL. Then she bolts back up to the back door. When we first got her she was NOT having the rain AT ALL or baths for that matter. We had a serious talk tho and that set her a little straight about rain happens and ya just can't always hold til it stops. So stop fighting it goofy. She looked liked we had beaten and abused her the first time we bathed her. LOL. That's better now too.
