What Made You Interested In APBT's

Just thought i would throw this up to ask what made everyone interested in the breed APBT.

Myself, i guess the most catching thing about them to me was, they have great, awesome character and that silky smooth coat of hair and them heads, whether its big and bulky or a smaller size pitbull head ,i lovem all.I fell in love with my first pitbull because everytime i came home that little tail was wagging and he seemed so excited to see me.Every where i went he wanted to go.Everything i done ,he wanted to be there with meto watch me do it.apbt is honestly a mans or womans best friend.Dont let anyone tell ya different, they are the most loving ,loyal, caring, pleasing dogs and pups out there. They will do anything to get their owners attention, and they expect attention as well, so please apbt owners every chance u get give ur pup or dog as much attention as u can.Thats another thing that interested me about the breed was the attention that they wanted to give and wanted for theirselves...bottom line i guess i love everything about them.

Any time I ever saw an APBT (or similar breeds, like amstaff) I loved them. They're so goofy and lovable. Then when I found out about how many of them go homeless because of bad press, I knew we had to adopt one.

I love the fact that no matter what dog it is, one of mine or a random one on the street, if Im having a bad day it only takes one pit bull kiss and everything turns around.
They are so willing to please, and for the tings Im involved in (SAR, Therapy Dogs, Obed.) they are just perfect.

And not to mention that never give up tenacity!! http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/biggrin.png

I agree - I don't even have an APBT but bully kisses are the best imo. They make me feel better well any dog kisses do too. Plus I volunteer at my local animal shelter and see them day in and day out and I do love them. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png I will probably own one someday rescued of course. They are just so sweet and a dog that will go to the end of the Earth for you! http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/hearts.gif

Nice answers!!

I also had my heart go out to them volunteering at a shelter. There were (are) just so many, and they are SO loving ...

Also my friend and neighbor took a big bully on (read: had it "dumped" on him) and this 85-pound gentle giant has been a joy to not just his owner, but to everyone he meets.

The other day this dog ("Dozer") was visiting in our yard, caught sight of our cat and took chase. We all yelled "No!" and the big lunk stopped in his tracks and came back to us. I know not all pit bulls would do that, but this is just an example of how this sweetie behaves, every time I have the pleasure of spending time with him he is just cooler and cooler. (Oh and he is pure red, and his head is the size and shape of a basketball http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/biggrin.png )

my friends sisters apbt nakita is the dog that got me interested in the breed. i watched her grow and loved her all the more. well i went to a small animal auction near me and there was some body trying to rehome so apbt puppies so i took a male now keep in mind i dont usually go for the male dogs dont know why but i usually have girls. well i decided to take him. got him home(was sort of dark there where the pups where) and noticed he had scars and was fat. took him to the vet and found out he was full of worms and had coccidea. the vet thought that he was used as a bait dog and thats where the physical and emotional scars came from. after losing him and fighting to save him i got another pit bull type dog and now decided i dont want anything else ok well i love dobermans too cause i grew up with them but those are my two breeds of choice from now on!http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/sonn_u11.gif

I just thought they were beautiful dogs, and i really just was drawn to them astheticly at first.I did some breed research to learn more about them and had the privledge of being around a few pitties (friends dogs) and just fell in love with their temperment. I got my first pittie,Domer and fell head over heels for pitties. Then I lost Do to cancer. Now i have another pit(2yrs later) and Bella is just wonderful ! I'm really sold on the breed.

I agree with all your answers!

I love my guy because he is the perfect man- happy to see me all the time, doesn't talk too much, is an AMAZING snuggler and has a great body.

I first got interested in Smokie Smoke,(my 1 year old male apbt)when a friend called one night and said hey josh u want my pit? i cant take care of him anymore. So being me and how much i love the breed i went 5 minutes up the road to see him..when i got there his chest was very red and broke out, had hair loss and his legs was red all over.I was so mad that my friend let him get in this condition.but at the same time i was glad he called because i now saw that he should have never had him in the first place, my friend has no job,no money, no way of taking any animals to the vet if they get sick, i wanted to knock him out right there, but we have been friends a long time and i knew that wouldnt solve anything so i bit my tounge and loaded ole smokie smoke up in the car...got him home, bathed him, brushed him,,week or 2 later he was looking so much better, with a bit of help and info from you all on here(thanks very much you all for the info)but now he has a great home and great skin and no hair loss..one of the happiest dogs in the world....but getting him healthier was a high goal for me ...and thats how i got interested in the ole smokie smoke!!!! lol....hope that wasnt boring to anyone lol.

These are great stories!

I fell in love with pit bulls when I rescued my 2nd dog, Jack. We had adopted our first dog from the shelter, and all of our cats from rescues. I started reading a local rescue board, run by the community that highlighted animals in dire need. Jack was the one who caught my eye.

He had been picked up by the LAPD with the worst case of mange they had ever seen. After living in isolation at the city shelter for 3 months, this beautiful and charming one-year-old boy was going to be put to sleep. Did anyone want to save him? Anyone?

I admit it was his mismatched eyes that sealed the deal. I knew an incredible cat named Mouse with mismatched eyes, who had to wear 4 bells to protect the neighborhood from his hunting prowess. This dog had survived 3 months in the shelter. Few mangy male pit bulls do. Was this dog something special?

This awesome community of rescuers made some phone calls, and I was free to go pick him up at the shelter the next day. I hadn't even seen him in person, just in photos. When they brought him out, I was floored. He was skinny, covered in oozing mangy lesions, and his head was just HUGE.

I put a flat collar with his nametag around his neck, they removed the shelter lead, and he just looked up at me like, "Well?"

Well, I had intended only to foster him, and heal him up, and find him a new home once he was presentable again. This is how I sold the situation to my husband. That is why he took me out to the shelter that day with our first dog, and why he let me take Jack home.

But after I met Jack, and realized how tough his life must have been, I just couldn't let him go. He didn't know how to chew things properly when he came to me! He'd take a bone or a kong and mouth it, while standing. Ilsa had to show him how to lay down and hold the object with his paws. After a meal and a bath, the light shining out of his eyes blinded me.

I had imparted a change in this dog's life. He was now alive because of me. I felt as if we were bound. He is my complete responsibility, to care for and to lead and to teach. I am his friend, and he gives his friendship boundlessly and with humor, as only pit bulls can do.

And now, thanks to Jack, I will never have anything but pit bulls. Preferably rescued, because there is such a need, but I admit that I envy your pedigreed dogs. Maybe someday. But the first will always be Jack. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

odd.eyed.jack: what a great story - so touching http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png If/when we get another dog, I hope to be able to rescue a pit bull that is in danger of being euthanized. Bug came to us through a no-kill rescue.

idobestbuyonlinepp 07-23-2009 06:44 PM

I am a breed convert; I despised the breed and felt that all Pit Bulls should be eradicated from this planet.

Then, in 2001, my husband took in a poorly cared for Pit puppy - on a whim, and of course, on a temporary basis http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/tongue.png.

I was terrified and thought that, surely, she would attack me ... that's what Pit Bulls did, right?

Wrong - she was wriggly, loving (yes, a handful too).

I set out to read and learn about the breed, and discovered that my (media fueled) prejudice was unfounded and irrational.

That was the beginning of my descent into adoration of the 'Pit Bull' http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

Now we have two:

Madeleine, now almost 9 (the temporary puppy)
Trusty, about 3 1/2
last, but not least, Esperanza (mostly Rottn), about 8-9 years ... by the time she came along in 2002, I was a pro at reshaping and correcting my breed knowledge http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/biggrin.png

Axxflcaj 07-23-2009 07:00 PM

I fell head over heels for one that I fostered.
I love my friend's dog Kida also. She is one of the best dogs I have ever known. Those bully smiles turn a crappy day right back around.
