Leaving my puppy at the family house.

I'm going away to Boston from Thursday to Monday and I'm leaving my 7 month old puppy,Boo Radley, with my family (mom, dad, two teenage brothers)

They have never had a dog before, or any animal, But I bring Boo to thier house about once a week, so he is familiar with them and thier home. They live on an acre or 2 of land in the burbs, very diffrent from my apartment in the city.

My concern is that Boo gets SO super hyper when he goes there. He will run in circles for 8 hours straight in the backyard and then pass out and sleep for 12 hours when we get back home.

I try really hard to calm him down while we are up there, but all he wants to do is keep playing. Is this normal? Isn't he exhausting himself?

I'm afraid that I am going to drop him off on Thursday night and he will play for two days straight before his body shuts down and passes out.

He is usually a pretty high energy puppy, but usually plays for 30 minutes, and then passes out for a few hours, and repeats the process until bedtime.

I don't crate him, or even own a crate, because my apartment is so small that it's not really neccasary for him in my opinion, so I can't just stick him in a crate and hope he calms down.

Any suggestions? Comments? Any important info that i should make sure I tell my family?

maybe give them this site so if anything comes up they can get help, like I donno what would come up but you know something not bad but info they might forget...I cant think to well right now, been up all night and it now sounds like Goren is getting into something so must make it short, mainly just make sure they walk him so he will settle faster and don't get mad if he goes potty in the house, he knows the house and them but you wont be there after all.

if your dog does not take to a crate then try getting a pen for it. we are also going away on a trip next week and my boyfriends mom will be watching both of the dogs. i bought a big pen to set up inside the house so that the puppy can play but cannot run around the house and get into things as he pleases.

I have a few baby crates for the inside of the house- my mom is a neat freak and he can't go into certain rooms- but i'm concerned about OUTSIDE.

That happens with Bug when she goes up to the lake. I think the wide open space is such a novelty and so exciting for your dog that he can't contain it. Being a puppy, it's 10x worse.

Nothing to worry yourself over. Just make sure they supervise him when he is outside.

Since he will be staying there for a couple of days he will get use to it. He may be crazy the first day or two but should calm down. Tell the family to play and interact with him. That may help to focus his puppy energy!

Not sure where your at, but I'd let him run and play to his heart's content. Like they said before, a tired pit bull is a happy pit bull. I don't know how hot it is where he'll be staying, so make sure they pay attention to the temperature. Let him out for like 30 min at a time if its hot, then bring him in doors for an hour or so to let him cool off. If he does happen to over heat, water him down, starting from the legs and working your way up. Ice packs on the inner back legs help cool them off too. I live in Texas, so heat is always something to worry about here.
