Aren't both breeds descended from the Mastiff?

OK so the APBT is not descended from the Mastiff?!

P.S. according to Wikipedia (and take that as you will; I often find it more reliable than other internet sources), it is a cross between an indigent Canary Island dog and the Mastiff and other dogs.

The breed is originally from the Canary Islands in the 1700s, notably Gran Canaria. Its exact ancestry is unknown, but enthusiasts believe that the Perro de Bardino Majorero, an established farm dog from the Canary Islands, was crossed with the Mastiff and other English dogs brought to the Islands by visitors and colonists, creating the foundation for the modern Presa Canario.

Presas are "pitbulls", at least as far as the media is concerned. They are one of the many breeds considered a pitbull, however they are not related to the APBT, AST, EBT, or the SBT.

Nope, American Pit Bull Terrier are not descended from Mastiffs. They are descended from the Bull(dog) and Terrier.

Just for clarity it is the Perro de Presa Canario. And it is an entirely different beast in genetics and temperament than the American Pit Bull Terrier.

I think Presa's are beautiful! I would love to have one someday. But then again I also want a Cane Corso, a Doberman, a Rottie, and a Mastiff... I just want a house full of dogs!!! LOL

Mastiffs and Pits are totally different make ups!
