Default I know this isnt about a Pit, but I am getting rid of my Pug
We have went through everything including training classes, spoken to a ton of people. But the Pug is just too hyper and NEVER calms down with his whining, nothing works, a shaker can, spray bottle, newspaper, nothing at all . I got him neutered not because I worried about him impregnating a dog because I knew that would never happen, but because my vet suggested it might calm him down a little. He is now 16 months old now, should be past the annoying puppy stage but unfortunately not and it just gets worse as he gets older. I am going to talk to a few couples I know that have Pugs, and if not seek out an owner through friends so that I can visit him as often as possible.

I just cannot do it anymore, and I feel bad. But the dog should go somewhere to people that can not get upset with him when he acts like that, and to people that will devote time to possibly training it out of him, and to be quite honest, I am very frustrated with him and my husband is the only one that spends time with him, Destiny even gets frustrated with him because he jumps in her face and such.

Am I doing the right thing here?

I personaly like pugs, pugo's, pugaroonies, pugmiester. They can be a little wound for sound. Have you thought about getting your dog a friend? Pugs do well with a friend,or Even daycamp/group play.

There are still some things you can do for him. An no I dont think your a bad person.

I just read your bio and it says that you have other dogs. Do you have a pic of that pug? For curiositys sake.... Your little friend shouldn't be hard to place and I'm sure there are some speciffic breed rescues that could help you as well. Or you can always send him to texas.

Gosh he is CUTE (AND evil looking, yes )

I'm sorry, it must be heartbreaking but of course you are making the right decision. I know you will be able to find him a great home, and look forward to updates!

Yea I just don't want to get to the point where I get so mad at him I smack him, thats why I keep him crated, I have a short fuse, lol. But I would never hit an animal. Every time I let him out for a few hours Destiny goes in her crate and whines til I shut the crate door because she does not like to be around him anymore.

Trust me, wouldnt work. I tire this dog out SO much, because for him to run around the yard a few times poops him out, he will be resting on the floor whining to himself

I think placing him in a home where he will get what he needs is a great thing to do, April.

Placing him will be a great thing. You are not a bad person by any means. My English Bulldog drives me up a wall with her whining, but I just can't part with her. I've become great at the ignore button in my head haha.

I have no ignore button unfortunately . It will take some time to place him, but I want him to be close and with someone I know, that way we can visit and get updates. My husband I think has this thing in his head that maybe if I cannot find someone I will decide to keep him, but I cant, its like a love hate relationship, I love him when its just him and I hangin on the couch, and I hate him when someone is here or my husband. Or when I put him in his crate, which is most of the time because Destiny does not seem to like him as much anymore.

Ok I have a question you are getting rid of the pug because he whines. And it seems as though you do not have time to spend with him. However you are getting a new "pit bull" puppy. And you have the time for a new puppy. What happens if your 2 "pit bulls" end up not getting along and you have to crate and rotate.

At 16 months, your pug is still a pup and demands a lot of attention and work. You may be wearing him out physically, but are you wearing him out mentally? Try some basic commands, and work with him for about 15 minutes, several times a day, like 4-6 times a day, or 8 times a day at 10 minute sessions. He is bored, and that's more than likely contributing to his whining. Does he whine when he's with you, or just when he's in the crate? Try to spend some more quality time with him, but don't coddle his whining, just ignore it, as hard as that may be. If you coddle the whining, you just teach him to whine more to get your attention. Best of luck with your decision.

He only whines in his crate if someone comes in the house, and he whines because he wants out. And he will whine the whole time they pet him, trust me I've done everything that I can. I know 100% for a fact that he whines because he is excited, and it will never end, I know a good many people on this forum that have Pugs also and have the same exact problem. I do not WANT to make time to spend with him frankly, I do not like the dog, sounds mean, but I don't. I have tried everything, and I am done. Ever since he came home with us, he has gotten worse, first it was the bathroom problems (he came from a puppy mill) we got him at a pet store, I know all about that stuff now. I cannot deal with it anymore. I am trying to do the right thing here by finding him a home with someone that will love him and spend more time, not trying to start an argument.
