I don't plan to spend money on another dog, unless it is of another breed... so, anything is too much for me at this point. I paid for my very first dog: $650 on a co-own. If you are active in the breed and are commited to work, show and title your dog, no APBT- breeder in their right mind will still ask for money. If they do... I guess I don't need a dog from them that bad.

but as far as i know, he is hard to buy one from, and that he wont sell to just anyone.
I'll have to go with Daniellev on this one, 1000$ is the most I would pay for a good bred APBT.
mr Colby agreed to let me come visit his yard and sell me one of his pups if I'm interested, I was SO not expecting that answer! I to tought it would be harder to get one of his yard... but he doesn't got as much dogs he got back in the days, at least that's what he told me.

I wouldn't pay more than maybe 200 bucks. I seen people try to sell dogs for a grand or two, all I know is if they cost that much they better come trained to do something valuable. They need to work off that money. I dont think I ve seen pitbulls go for a grand but Ive seen englist bulldogs for for over a grand, and they have health problems

I have been looking around at different breeders and not to name anyone but I have seen puppies going for 5600.00 I thought it was a misprint. How can you justify this, most breeders will tell you that if you breed it is not for the money it is for the love of the breed. But at 5600.00 I would say you do it for the love of money>

Ha exactly, and you see so many pitbull mixes in the animal shelter or pound, you can get these dogs for a lot less and still get a quality dog. I got my dog for free and I took him to animal control to see if I could get him neutered at an affordable cost. They actually gave him his shots and neutered him for free, they said anything that looks like a pitbull they take care of all that for free because there the type of dog that is most likely to be thrown away. So why would anyone pay thousands of dollars for a dog. Just because you pay that much does not guarantee really anything.

That's almost the price of a good used car!
Definitely for the love of money.

I dont think I'd pay more than $500... I don't show or anything and I just want a good quality house pet. My english Bulldog was the expensive one, but I only paid $60 Go fort bragg animal pound.

Wow, you got lucky there, lmw. I have looked for English Bulldogs up for adoption, and most of those places were trying to adopt them out at $500, which I thought was insane.

Yea I know.. I tried to get one through adoption rescues, and they were insane about the prices and where you had to live.. Like some you had to be in the Chicago area to adopt. I live in NC so I couldnt.. I went on Fort Bragg after work just to look and there she was.. I know it sounds weird.. but look up on petfinder like army posts and things like that.. They have shelters where they take dogs who are given up and adopt them out.. but they only keep them so long like.. a few weeks before they euthanize them. My bulldog had been in that shelter TWICE.. the first time because the wife of a soldier hated her and when her husband deployed she surrendered her.. and the second time I guess they werent ready for how expensive they can be.. so for $60 I got a new girl I call her the Clearance Bulldog

Ive been reading a lot of posts about how ridiculous the prices are for ambullies and the newer pocketbullies ranging between 1 and 4 thousand dollars and i highly disagree.personally i dont think they are worth more than a true apbt or any dog for that matter but i have always thought that the prices of most dogs are way to low and dont think that any dog should be sold for under a thousand dollars.Too many dogs wind up in shelters or worse because people buy them on a whim without doing any research on the breed they are getting or how to properly train a dog.they buy them because they are cute without any thought whatsoever most of the time.then when the dog gets bigger and isnt cute anymore its usually thrown away.if dogs actually cost a considerable amount of money most people would put a little more thought into the purchase of a dog and wouldn't be so willing to just get rid of it when it turns out to be more work than you expected.most dogs are only as good as their owners train them to be.I know 1000 dolars is a lot of money to some people but honestly if you cant afford that you shouldnt be buying a dog.its gonna cost a whole hell of a lot more than that to take proper care of any dog that you get.im curious to see what other peoples views are on the subject

There are some dogs that people pay high dollar for in the shelters and rescues as well. Just look up any breed specific rescue, and you will see quite a few high dollar dogs without homes.

I don't think paying more means that you are going to take better care of it. It all goes down to the kind of owner the person is going to be. If you aren't going to take the time to take care of your dog, then whether you pay 1,000 or get it for free, you probably aren't going to take care of it. If you are a fantastic owner, whether you buy 1,000 or get it for free, you are most likely still going to be a fantastic owner.

Tess was free, and I take just as good care of her as I do the rest, though Cuddles was $60 from a shelter, and Stan paid $80, for Notch (I think). We treat them all the same, love them all the same.

Also, the thing I see with many people who pay $1,000 or more for their dog. They see it as an invest to make money off of the pups in the future, whether their dog is "worthy of being bred" or not. They think, "well, I paid 1,000 for this dog. I want to make my money back and then some."

I personally would rather spend that $1,000 for something for the dog or Vet care for the dog, then to buy a dog.

Just my opinion on it, though.

I don't think I would go more than 1500 if I was trying to win some shows or get a dog already trained. We got our current dog for 350 and I know now that was probably insane. He is worth every penny but I will adopt in the future.

A friend's aunt bought her a Welsh Corgi at a pet store for 1200!!!! he has papers but is the biggest WC I have ever seen (like not normal), plus she left him with her ex......Crazy!

I agree! I think it is ridiculous to punish those that want a good dog and will take great care of it by charging a lot of money. If anything there should be some kind of test or license you have to get in order to own a dog(or child). My parents adopted all three dogs we had growing up and other than them needing to walk them more, a dog in that house is a lucky dog! If I paid 1k for our dog I wouldn't be able to afford all the things I have given him since, toys, vet care, high quality food, supplements, etc.

I agree that people wouldn't rush out and get one and then so quick to give it away, but I don't believe that is the answer to solving it.

im not by any means saying that a thousand dollar or more dog is better than a free one just that people would be less impulsive to take home a dog if it was going to cost them a substantial sum of money.my parents for example should never be allowed to own a dog but unfortunately they keep getting them.usually the ones that are free.then when it doesnt act the way they expect it to even though they never train them they get rid of it for a new one.they are so cheap that one of the last dogs they got was an older dalmation with known health problems.one of them being a urinary problem which caused the dog to leak urine unknowingly because it was only 75 dollars.then when the excitement of having a new dog wore off the chore of cleaning up the puddles became to much of a hassle they took it to the shelter only to find out the shelter wanted 100 dollars to take her in.my parents werent about to spend the money to put the dog in a shelter, instead they drove it about 20 miles from home and abandoned it in a parking lot.i know for a fact that they or people like them would never pay a lot of money for a dog and by charging a decent sum for a dog would prevent a lot of dogs going to substandard homes only to be discarded
