Well my personal feeling about people who form negative opinions of things they can never personally understand is one of general distaste. Come on, you just did the same thing...play nice.....

Thank you Michele. I do not intend to bash anyone. I am obviously at the far end of the scale in my opinion here. Most people here I think do not share my belief and I am cool with that. I am not trying to bash anyone personally. it is true I am generally anti-breeding and I will never be able to understand -- though I really have tried -- some of the other things that usually go along with "large yards" of pit bulls. But again that puts me in the minority. I am comfortable with that and I hope others are too.

Not on this forum, I suspect I am very much in the minority. But I'm still here because I LIKE these people even though we don't agree on some things.

OK ... NOW back on topic?

Default Bleach Cleaning
I've heard of a lot of dog owners say they clean their dog area with bleach. Can you tell me why and how, like in a sprayer or something.

I dont see why it would be done on a reutine basis... but if I "lose" a dog then I will bleach the area as well as the dog house and let it sit for a few days before I use the spot. Also, before I use a pin/kennel I will bleach the ground and pin its self. This is done when I put a dog in it to have pups or just when I put a new dog inside it. I've got a spray bottle that I feel up with bleach. My hand is all cramped up by the time I'm done spraying everything down but atleast everything is clean lol.

There are many benefits to disinfecting the dog's area with a bleach mixture. Possible parasites, ringworm (which is a fungus & LOVES humid area & is especially prevelant in muddy patches after rain), mold/mildew.....basically just hygenie. I mean, think aobut it. We like to have clean tubs & toilets, eh?

For routine cleaning, you could do a mixture of 1 part bleach to 9 parts water. That would do just fine.

Once a week I take the kennel trays out of all the kennels & wash them down with a bleach solution. I also do all food bowls & water bowls as well. Any beds & blankets get washed in the washing machine with bleach added.

As long as you rinse well, it's all fine & dandy. However, if it makes you nervous still, Chlorox has come out with a new product called Chlorox Anywhere in a blue bottle that is safe for all food areas & such so you can use that if you want.

I use a 1 to 10 solution for cleaning crates, cement kennel areas, and any rooms where a sick dog was kept. For cases of internal parasites and parvo, we bleach the "poop spots" with a 1 to 3 solution.

Food and water bowls are cleaned on a daily basis in the dishwater. Bedding is changed as needed, and to be honest I never sanitize toys (If a sixk dog had one, we toss them).

And Miakoda, that Anywhere spray is awesome

OK And what about flies. They ate the tops of Rebels ears off last year and are starting again. I use this pink cream called SWAT and it's OK. Just have to use it often. Is there anything I can put on the yard to help. I always clean poop every morning.
