Default To the American Bully Owners...
Being on BullyDomain made me think of this. Note this is not a bashing....

Dear American Bully Owners,

I know many of you feel that your dog is an American Pit Bull Terrier. Many says, "All Dave Wilson added was Amstaff." Dave Wilson may have only added Amstaff blood to his line. I wasn't there, so I can only take what he says as the truth. However, other people have obviously added more than just Amstaff to their lines, like English bulldog and Mastiff (in some cases). It doesn't make your dog less "worthy", it just makes it a different breed.

Yes, to John Q. Public, a "Pit Bull" is anything that slightly resembles an American Pit Bull Terrier, but just because you have some of the blood in there, doesn't make it one. A person with a Patterdale could possible lose their dog as well if BSL comes knocking at their door, but that doesn't make it an American Pit Bull Terrier, just because the uneducated Public thinks it's one.

Yes, we need to stick together, but that doesn't mean that we have to agree that the American Bully and the American Pit Bull Terrier are the same breed. We should stick together in the fact that we don't want any of them banned, be it an American Pit Bull Terrier, an Amstaff, a Staffie, or an American Bully, or any breed. I have no problem with the American Bully itself. I have a problem when people try to pass it off as an American Pit Bull Terrier. Is it a bully breed? Yes. Is it an APBT? No.

I am not putting down the American Bully. To me, not acknowledging it as the breed it is, is a huge slap in the face to the dog. Why does it have to be an American Pit Bull Terrier? Is an American Bully, not a great dog if it doesn't have that name? No, if it's a good dog, then it's a good dog. But saying because they have the same temperament and the same drive makes them the same breed isn't accurate. A Patterdale Terrier looks a lot like an APBT, it has the same drive, the same temperament, and even has some APBT blood down the line, but it is still a Patterdale Terrier, not an American Pit Bull Terrier. Such is the American Bully.

If I wanted an American Bully, then I'd call it an American Bully. I don't see why it's upsets the American Bully crowd so much. You love your dog, right? Does it matter if it's an APBT or not? It shouldn't. If you love it, then what does it matter it's breed? It's still a bully breed. It still fits in the category.

American Bullies aren't my style of dogs, but if they are yours, then more power to you, own as many as you can take care of and love. I am not telling you to get rid of your dog, or that your dog sucks. If it's a good dog to you, then I am happy to hear it. I just don't see why many people feel the need to call them, APBT, when it's obvious that they aren't. Are they from the same ancestry? Yes, but now they have branched off and are their own breed. You should be proud of that breed, not trying to make it something it's not.

So, American Bully Owners stand tall and proudly call your dogs what they are American Bullies. Don't be ashamed of them. Don't try to make them into something they are not. Be proud of what they are.

Thank you. -CHJ
