Last week we bought our first house.. well today my wife decided that since we have plenty of room so she went to the animal shelter and braught home 2 new puppies.. they parents were papered but turned in by the people because of foreclosure supposively and they couldnt take them to the apartment and later it turned out the female was pregnant.. the pups are cute as could be but they are supper sucked up weight wise and the parents were good looking. she went in their and i guess felt bad seperating them so adopted both without telling me she was getting any puppies.. and even though papered and they said we dont have to get them fixed i asked the shelter and they will spay and neuter them anyways.. but heres my question i already have my 7 month old female who is in heat that is extremely dominant over other female dogs as we found out... so here is my question i want to keep them seperated until her heat is over just because i know that right now she is a little more grumpy we will say but after is their a better chance she will accept them around because they are 8 week old puppies or am i just best off to keep them seperated from her for good? and later i will post pics of our new rescued pups.

Uh, your female may not take to them even after her heat.. but yes, keep them seperated for now and be prepared to seperate all 3 in the future when it comes to it by crate and rotate or proper chain set ups. Never leave them unsupervised either, ever! Do you have a breakstick also? If not, please get one or two!

i have 7 breaksticks that i had made out of old ax handles when i was a kid with my dad.. i keep one by every entrance and in each room.. the pups are 1 male 1 female.. i know she will take to the male pup because she always has liked male pups and adult dogs.. the only reason i know she is female dominant is my friend braught over a 2 year old female chihuahua that was dominantant when it tried to dominante violet she pinned it down to the floor with her paws and did some weird thing where it looked like she was chewing a inch a way from the other dogs ear but was making a weird chewbacka like noise but she never bit it just pinned it down and then let it up and walked away from it

Just be prepared that there may come a day where you have to keep all 3 separated. In my honest opinion adopting both pups was a bad idea. Especially since you know your female doesn't care for other females so to speak. But its done its happened you have the dogs now. Now its going to be up to you to care for them, train them, and keep them safe. I would keep them separated from your female until after her heat but be prepared she may not accept them even then. Better to be safe than sorry

Once your oldest female is out of heat and behaving less hormonal I would introduce her and the female pup. While the puppies are young the adult can train them in what she will and will not tolerate from them to avoid problems later. Of course, this is not fool proof and she may decide she doesn't like the pups or doesn't like the female. But I do believe that you have your best shot at future harmony if the pups are raised with the adult female.
My females are Dog Selective and Dog Aggressive, respectively. But they do get along with each other simply because my oldest, Rita, gave the youngest, Renee, some slack since she was a pup when we got her. It took Rita a few weeks of snarking a bit and disciplining a bit, but Renee learned what Rita will and will not put up with and both know what we humans will and will not tolerate, so we keep the peace. If that ever changes, I'll just separate them by rotating between the different floors of the house, the yard and the crates. |

I have two adult dogs that hates puppies we found out the hard way with both of them, no one was seriously hurt but it could have gotten ugly really fast so careful. Never leave any of them alone unsupervised. I have a few adults that loves puppies and even though I let them play together a lot when they are pups they absolutely hate them when they are grown. I have a female that is really good with her own pups but once that pup is grown she hates them and I have some that get along with everyone no matter the age.

Wow. Our local shelter will not adopt out a dog unless all adults in the household sign saying they are aware of the adoption and are ok with it. Plus our local shelter will not adopt out any pups or dogs to a household that currently has pets until there is a meet and greet on neutral ground and everything goes ok.
Take it slow. Be prepared and don't force anything. |

Yikes. Three puppies! Have you all lost your minds? Wow.
Are the pups both girls too? Okay first off EVERYONE needs spayed/neutered ASAP!!! If you can find a vet that will do your bitch while still in heat, please just do it. Don't need any "oops" crap. I hope everyone has a crate and you all are prepared for a very, very regimented dog management schedule. I don't even mean because of DA, but because to raise puppies responsibly they have to have a good schedule... especially with three that will end up bonding more to each other than to you if they are all just running around together all day.... The next year and half are gonna suck. I can't imagine being nuts enough to add two puppies to a household that already has a 7 month old pup. The smarter thing would have been to work on your girl's training, etc. and then add one male pup when shes two years old and already SPAYED. But whatevs. I dunno, I'd be freaking livid if I were married and my spouse pulled that shit.... maybe thats just me. ![]() |
