PhilaPets.com - A recommendation
 

I had been using PhilaPets.com pet sitters for some time now and singing their praises. Manny's pet sitter was Miriam... I know he adored her and she him. I never had to worry no matter if I was away for 1 night or 2 weeks. I always knew Manny was well cared for and well loved while I was away. Miriam was even there when I was taken out of town in a matter of hours on a family emergency.

Yesterday, Miriam provided another, unexpected service. I awoke yesterday morning to find that Manny had passed in his sleep (he was around 11 & diabetic... I had planned to take him to the vet yesterday morning because he wasn't well over the weekend). In a sheer panic, I called Miriam for guidance on what to do in this situation. She quickly returned my call and calmly & sympatheticly guided me thru how to handle the situation.

Luckily my father, who had taken the day off of work to relax, was able to come over and help me bring him to the vet to handle his body.

After spending most of the day at my parents', I returned home to find an email from the whole PhilaPets.com team expressing their condolences on Manny's passing and that they had made a gift to the ASPCA in Manny's memory.

while I'm sorry the cat died, I can't help but be cynical- you're the same person who was looking to get rid of this cat about a month or so ago because you said you lost your job and couldn't "afford" to continue paying for the meds for him.
you also said you had someone in mind to give the cat to.

yet, you had $$ for trips AND $$ to pay someone, not just someone, but a service, to take care of the cat? I know I can't afford that NOW, let alone when I was on unemployment.
I guess I'm just confused...

I think this would be a good time to back off right now.

ACG, thanks for the recommendation of PhilaPets--I'm not comfortable leaving my dog with anyone, but if I need to, I'm happy to know they come so highly recommended. Again, so very sorry for your loss. Manny was so lucky to have you as his caretaker for 11 years.

Sorry to hear about Manny. I'm sure he had a good happy life with you. You were a good person for seeing him thru the bad health times.

I have cats myself and have had to deal with the deaths of two of them in the past.

I also said, "sorry your cat died," and yes, you are correct, I did NOT mean sorry for you when I wrote that at that time, I meant sorry for the cat.
My LAST reply was to neutralize my first, but I realize now that my first impression was probably right.

You obviously have no idea what a "martyr" is or you wouldn't get THAT out of anything I've ever said....even IF you WERE good at reading people, which I am. VERY. You would have no way of knowing how good, so I'll leave it at that, but those who know me well are not surprised when I sum up a person's character and am right based on much less than what you've already posted in these 2 threads.

Like I said when you were trying to get rid of your cat, when I was in a situation where I not only didn't have a job, but had to sell plasma for money for food, I took care of the cat. I didn't just take unemployment because it was convenient and because I didn't feel like taking just ANY job because I felt it was beneath me while waiting for one in my "field."
Some people have different levels of obligation when it comes to their pets.

You said you couldn't afford its medication, that was over a month ago. You said you were going to give it to someone who could and wanted validation from the board for doing so, yet, apparently, you didn't, so that leads one to assume you kept the cat even though you couldn't afford the medication it needed, and the cat died.
IF I'M WRONG, PLEASE, ENLIGHTEN US ALL. I'm just stating what you posted.

After getting the mail today, I remembered that those who know me and knew Manny understand our bond and my devotion & love for him. That I have nothing to prove to ignorant strangers who feel they know me or are better than me. I apologize to everyone who expressed sincere sympathies for losing my temper and acting out emotionally.

Today I received a hand written note from Manny's doctor at the VCA Cat Hospital, Dr. Kurpel. She expressed sympathies for Manny's passing and reached out to me, offering to be there if I need anyone to talk to. She obviously cared for both Manny & me.

We lost our German Shepherd two months ago, and PhilaPets was equally sympathetic. I think it's a remarkably kind and caring gesture for a sitting service to make a memorial donation.

Like you, we were struggling with our dog's vet bills, and like you we occasionally had to travel -- in our case it was an inescapable family obligation. The financial juggling act is not easy, nor is the loss of an animal companion no matter how conflicted you may be about the issues of his care. You have my best wishes.
