and anyway why should we heed anyone who thinks they're dumber than a bird?

That is pretty much it. Impossible to ever be wrong when all you have to do is invoke your twin gods, imagination and the future. And for the same reasons it makes as much sense as arguing with a young earther. Amusing if you like that sort of thing but ultimately pointless.

Bingo!!!!
Of course as long as it is within the laws of physics and GR. And given time!!

SallythePearl 09-08-2012 05:51 PM

What we, you and I and everyone needs to remember is that any sense of pessimism and lack of ambition are the ultimate dangers. It's only a sense of optimism and continued forward progress can solve our current (and possible future) problems. We must find our destiny in diversity and continue forward rather than meekly await some dismal future.

just because we can formulate a valid mathematical solution that solves a particular problem, doesn't mean is it, or ever will be, practically achievable.

Only pointless to those that are willing to sit on their hands and miserably and pessimistically talk themselves into depression...Sad really.

Doesnt mean it wont be either....:-)
Given time, the chances of achievability are enormous!

there is no such thing as destiny and optimism is not defined as a belief that anything is possible

The future is our destiny, so you are wrong...
And of course optimism has been shown throughout the ages to advance mankind...But in reality I know you know that.

I'll settle for that, with the addition, given time, that "maybe" becomes more and more certain.

or uncertain. the more we know can result in the more we know we will never be able to do. works both ways.

Well, that's a pessimistic way of looking at it.
I prefer to be optimistic that most scenarios within the laws of physics, given time, will be achievable.

cholleyhomeob 09-08-2012 06:10 PM

Well, that's a pessimistic way of looking at it. how is it pessimistic? are you saying that it isn't true?

Jxmwzgpv 09-08-2012 06:12 PM

anyway optimism and pessimism don't come into it. that is just a sly personal insult and has no place in the argument. science is about what is and if that what is is that we now know that something is impossible then that is what is. simple.

I'm not [as you know in reality] speaking of seeing an Elephant hanging over a cliff, with his tail tied to a Dandelion, nor am I speaking of ferries at the bottom of the garden, I'm speaking of those scenarios already allowed by the laws of physics.
So yes, your's is a pessimistic outlook.
