personally i'd go with joey's idea. had a landcruiser that was painted with this stuff underneath. killed the road noise and was a rust proofing. easy to apply and doesn't deteriorate or come off.

Yes.. I'd agree that on road vehicles.. you want either a permanent solution or a quick and easy temporary fix.

The questions I'd be asking.. after I'd paid to have the van fitted out after sale.. is why they didn't ask or offer me such solutions to choose from in the retro-fitting planning stages..

hehehe ... I am NOT turning into my Auntie Marg ... when a stainless steel sink becomes the pride of my life I will know it is time to end it!

I'm not interested in bits of stuff laid in the bottom every time I washup .. that's what I am doing for the moment, and I know I can continue that.

Unfortunately the bowl is an odd shape so a purchased soft material bowl wont do iehter (as in couldn't be found).

I had thought of getting a fibre-glass person to make me a bowl that would fit exactly; I would be happy to carry the water out to use on plants or tip it into the main bowl after finishing the dishes, to go down the plughole.
Mostly though, I like the idea of joey's so far.

Hi JJ
The expanding foam stuff will work but jeeze it can make a mess. There are two types a spray on for areas and a nozzle type for getting in side of stuff. Clean up with metho and elbow grease. its not real cheap and can end in tears.
The Auto stuff sounds good , access maybe hard and it sounds a bit messy also .
There is a thing called Flashtac . It comes in strips and you use it to flash metal roofs with when a hole some how eventuates http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.png
You can get it mst places and is self adheasive , should be quick and easy and Im pretty sure would do what you want.

The last double sink I bought had thick self-adhesive rubber type stuff on the bottoms.

is there anything that they don't cover?

Thanks Thomo and everyone .

I'm glad I did ask here; wasn't really sure about it.

I have an old house with odd shaped sinks in the kitchen. Very deep and very square, a normal washing bowl wont fit. I use a plastic storage container (the type used to stores clothes etc) from one of those chicken feed stores.

A sheet of lead flashing would probably work well, glued on with one of the gooey suggestions mentioned above.

This is what I was thinking I would have to do, but some of the above suggestions, involving sticky backed flexible materials that I only have to peel the backing from, sound safer http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.png

thanks though, for responding.

That's what I have been doing, but with a very small sink to start with, and with an ummmm an arc? ... a piece cut off one side where the tap is se,t to make it even odder-shaped (and so smaller).

I can't find anything small enough to fit without losing way too much space for the washing up. The other thing I have been doing is to line it with a cloth to damp the sound, but am hoping for something a bit more tidy.

I'm not quite understanding the situation of your sink jj, but if you're in Adelaide (I have some vague intuition you are) I could easily swing you some acoustic insulation such as is used on sewerage pipes in high rise buildings to dampen the noise of flushed poo. It comes in sheets, 25mm thick. Esseltecdi at gmail dot com if you want some. Let me know here too, as I only check my emails infrequently.
