For those of you who missed Australian Story last night there was a story on Torah Bright, the Australian Snowboarding champion.
After being concussed She went to her Chiropracter who inserted these inflationary devices into her nasal cavity in order to treat some symptoms she was having. I didn't catch what these symptoms where but the treatment looked very painful. Is this treatment a medically accepted one having demonstrable benefits or another dodgy Chiropractic snake oil thingy? |

What symptoms was she having? From your description, it may have been Politzerisation for relief of middle ear congestion. (Eustachian incompetence.) That is a legitimate medical procedure.

It's an inflatable balloon device that is inserted then inflated.
You can see it on iview: http://www.abc.net.au/iview/#/series/2299111 Skip forward to about 13 minutes in. |

I'm unable to watch the programme, the procedure described sounds like something my husband had done when he was about 9. He had smashed his nose against a metal pole rather badly. The doctor would thread a condom through master kii's nostril and out his mouth, then inflate it and pop it. This continued during the healing process. Sounds very kinky and weird but it seemed to work - he has a beautiful nose, but it gets a bit blocked as it seems the passageways are still a bit mooshed. Back woods Montana 1959ish.

Okay, just discussed this with mr kii. It seems it was a chiropractor who treated his broken nose at around 10 or 11. I wish we could see the video of Australian Story. He said that his nostrils are fine, there's nothing wrong with his nose. I think it is broken in the smelling department, but that's just me it seems :/
