Default Quick question - Glyphosate
In NSW the general requirement for a buffer zone from agricultural use is 20M. If you are only doing spot spraying the requirement is not to contaminate the water. The main concern is detergents used as "stickers" to make the herbicide stick to leaves. If you don't use a detergent there isn't much cause for concern.
Yes. Monsanto themselves recommend painting rather than spraying. Detergents are used as spreading agents and to break down defenses.
There are different formulations of glyphosate. Some are for use in controlling weeds in streams. However, tiny amounts of glyphosate affect frogs.

Water spreads glyphosate through the soil profile. Plants such as potatoes and tomatoes are extremely susceptible.. I would think that they are now inedible other than for replanting, possibly next years crop will be good.

Can anyone tell me the minimum distance from waterways glyphosate can be used as a spray?

I've got it around here somewhere but I figured it probably quicker to ask here.

Ive never seen a distance given (probably for liability reasons).
It's always been general stuff about distance, lie of the land etc and local weather conditions at the time (notably wind and rain likelihood.

Maybe others know more, certainly roughbarked has lots of experience with it and woollybutt to I think.

Thanks jj. How is it that when you want Roughy he's not around but seems to live here for the rest of the time

I've got a bloke coming over to apologise for killing my vegies with spray drift. He was spraying right up to the edge of the drain behind the house next door. I want to have a friendly chat about indiscriminate use of poisons especially when I whipper snip and mow the area he sprayed on a regular basis.

Secondary question, half the vines from my sweet potatoes copped it. The rest seem to be fine. As its a systemic poison, I'm now a bit wary of consuming the tubers. I'm a big fan of safe rather than sorry, but as the whole plant hasn't died would they still be OK or should I give up on and simply dig them out and start again?

Well, if you believe Monsanto they will be OK, but they have been found to be less than completely honest often enough that I wouldn't trust their reassurances.
:/

I do use Roundup when I must; even though within 100 metres of a creek; generally painting it on.

Roughbarked has family chauferring responsibilities just now I think and Woollybutt is working out at the gym (just teasing )

I should have got out with the glyphosate today, because it isn't raining, but I did other stuff instead. I'm going to have to fence off the garden in parts, so the paddies don't nibble the sprayed vegetation. Not that they normally eat the weeds, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they decide to try them out once the herbicide has been applied. Contrary little so-and-sos.

It was a great day for S-Methoprene too. If I listen carefully I can hear the ants munching

Got to take the hairy child for a walk/play.

Thanks Roughy. I'll dig 'em out tomorrow.
It'll make room for some of the seedlings I've got that are ready to go in.

actually this is at least twice that I have noticed that glitch, though this time I had to have it pointed out to me.. it is because I load the last post first.. that I don' tsee the first post unless I scroll down.

That can be controlled in settings - last post first or first post first.
