Default Birdwatching...
Just thought I'd ask if anybody else on here is a birder.

I saw my first Phainopepla yesterday while on a walk. It was very exciting.

Looks like a green heron to me.

It looks so blue though when it's flying! Where did you see it?

Great pics. Wow!

I was out with my new camera at the time and went down the street behind a small college where it was wooded to see if there were any deer. I was shocked when I came across the pond as I had no idea it was there. We live in a highly residential area and this was the only place nearby I could see any deer hiding in. I saw this bird their a couple of times. Also came across a Great Blue Heron in the same spot a couple of times but it must have tremendous sight and hearing because the second I would get thru this tiny clearing it would take off.

Pretty sure it is not a Green Heron

And yes it is very vividly blue

What about an Ibis?

All About Birds: Glossy Ibis

Not where it belongs.... but hey.... all the weather changes could have messed it up.

Hmmmm...... We have a pond. Lots of funny birds stop by. Usually the herons.... even a white one now and then --- not sure if it's a heron though...... seagulls, ducks, turkey buzzards -- now they smell nasty! We had about 15 of them stop in a few years ago. We could smell them before we saw them. I actually ran outside and scared them off. The odor was horrible. They may have just been feasting on roadkill is what I was told.

Those yellow legs are what's throwing me off. I did a search on WhatBird.com and kept coming up with green heron too. Argh!

This is totally going to bug me! When/if you figure it out, please let me know!

that is a great website

It looks more like a little blue heron except for the legs as you say.

The wings do not appear to right though for a Green Heron

It is not a Great Blue Heron. I'm fairly sure it's a Green Heron. It looks similar to an American Bittern but the brown breast is throwing me off. I'm not a true birder in any sense ( I'm workin' on it though ) but I do like to pin down what I shoot.

I don't have a shot of a Green Heron ( yet ) but you can read about 'em here.
All About Birds: Green Heron

This site helps me ID quite a bit.....
