Default What's the telco's responsibility and what's not?
Afternoon all, I have been fighting with Vodafail because my reception is sketchy at best (at the moment) and has been getting worse over the last few months...

I have replaced the sim card, and i've even changed phones, but I still seem to be having issues...

I sent an email to vodafail explaining (in great detail) the issues that i was having, including my phone not syncing properly.

I got the standard "we're upgrading the towers in your area" response and was then told that syncing wasn't a "network" issue (but they didn't address the bits of my email that _were_ a "network" issue).

So it then leads me to ask (among other things), how is syncing not a network issue?

Also, what IS the responsibility of the network, and what IS the responsibility of the phone?

I am not sure what your syncing problem is and whether the Vodafone network is involved. You may need to give more detail.
As far as Vodafone's obfuscation you could go to the Telecommunication Industry Ombudsman.
My recommendation is that you go to Whirlpool http://www.whirlpool.net.au. Click on "Discussion Forum" then on Wireless ISPs on the right hand side of the page. At the bottom of the Wireless ISPs page click on "New Thread". In "Group" click on Vodafone then put in an appropriate "Heading". Post an edited version of your email and their reply making sure you have deleted any personal identifying material such as name, phone No. etc.; and ask for some help in dealing with this. Apart from there being a number of smart operators on the forum, often Company reps are also there and can give better help than you will ever get from the help desk. You need to register to post on the forum if you aren't already a member but I am satisfied they are safe.

Vodafone don't care.
If you ring them - they don't care (nor do they really understand English that well, they use an Indian call centre where it's impossible to talk to anyone from the actual network side of the business but the person taking your call will promise to send them an email and get back to you within 3 - 5 working days)
if you email them - they don't care
As an ISP they're the middleman in the syncing caper, they're not really involved in the client/server relationship they're happy to provide you with an IP and leave it at that.
Have they sent you a link to their coverage maps? ( they're sketchy at best because Vodafone don't care)
have you joined their support forums? (they're pretty much a waste of time because no-one there cares)
I haven't been convinced that their upgrading their network is one of the causes of their network degredation is an argument that holds a lot of water. I mean how long does it take to install one of these Huawei modems in a tower that Vodafone already owns.
I should ask a few people who worked for Vodafone how long it takes to upgrade a tower.
Anyway good luck with getting satisfaction from them, they lost about 300,000 customers last year 9or was it the year before last?) and it didn't improve their service

Ok, i am cranky now...

Vodafail are telling me that they upgraded my handset in July 2011. I'm sorry, wasn't me that they upgraded, they are also saying that I refused a troubleshooting by customer care at this time (as if i'd ever refuse help that i'm trying to ask for).

I am keeping these emails for a rip-roaring complaint!

If that fails, perhaps you could try giving Vodaphone's call centre this kind of treatment...

ok, i spoke with a tech person... Apparently I have to make my phone 2G for the next 24 hours... had to tell them that i understood that this would mean no internet or anything like that...

Well, four hours later, my blackberry is still receiving emails and facebook is still going "bing" and hell, i even accessed the forum! (so much for "no internet").

don't claim to understand what's going on, but i shall continue the charade that they're putting me through...

I really feel sad for these issues getting every time with your network sync. They really make things worsen and let everything fail too. It's good to get big bang dissertations reviews before choosing any network by knowing it's functionality.
