Default Vick's Home Raided
Vick's Smithfield home raided

07:37 AM EDT on Thursday, April 26, 2007

A home owned by NFL star Michael Vick was raided overnight.
State Police say they initially went to serve a warrant to the person living in Vick’s home on Moonlight Road in Smithfield.
They didn’t find him, but they say they found as many as 50 dogs suffering from neglect.
The animals were in several buildings behind the house and investigators say they had various injuries and some were in “bad shape,” according to officials.
Animal control officers from several localities spent much of the night at the property.
Officers from the Meherrin Drug Task Force also were on the scene. It’s a multi-jurisdictional task force to investigate major drug trafficking.
Investigators said they'll return to the property Thursday.

Why the fuck have this many dogs if you aren't going to take care of them? You certainly aren't breeding them or anything if they are in such bad shape.

Without further details, I'm almost assuming that this could be a dog fighting ring. They list poor condition and injuries. This is obviously just speculation though.

This article explains things a little better.

EVIDENCE OF "ILLEGAL ACTIVITY" FOUND ON VICK PROPERTY
As reported last night by FOX 43 and WAVY-TV, property in Virginia owned by Falcons quarterback Michael Vick has been searched by police. Per the reports, several animal control trucks were on the scene, and the sound of barking dogs could be heard.
Most of the "real" media is chasing this latest story with the same zeal that was displayed after Vick was sued for giving a former girlfriend herpes and after a water bottle with a hidden compartment that smelled not of water was found in his possession in a Miami airport. But there are indications that this one could be (key words: "could be") a doozy.
Per WAVY-TV, police discovered "animal neglect" on the property, in the form of dogs that appeared to be "hungry and forgotten."In a video report on FOX 43, Surry County (Va.) administrator Tyrone Franklin says that "it does give the appearance of some activity, illegal activity."
Though Franklin doesn't specify the illegal activity, our own Taco Bill has found a report regarding the story on Pet-Abuse.com containing the following paragraph that is nothing short of a bombshell:
"Early reports indicate that Vick was allegedly running a dog-fighting and cockfighting operation from the back of the home. The Virginia Animal Fighting Taskforce was on the scene. Authorities report that Vick had been under investigation for several years for illegal animal fighting."
Holy Milk Bones, Batman.
(It's not presently known whether any roosters named "Little Jerry Seinfeld" were found on the property.)
Though it is being emphasized in media reports that Vick is rarely at the property, he owns the place -- and he surely has an inkling of what is going on there. Especially since the FOX 43 report shows images of three buildings on the property that apparently housed the dogs. Those buildings didn't just build themselves; there's a chance that they were designed to be kennels, and that Vick approved the plans and wrote the check to get them built.

That's true. Never thought of that. I guess you wouldn't be taking dogs to the vet all the time with injuries if you were running a ring like that.

Still ridiculously cruel. I don't condone shit like that, but at least have a vet you pay to come in and fix the wounds that won't report you.

The almighty dollar will prevail....My question is...Whose? I could see Atlanta saying "Sweet! We have an out on this one!!!"

That's assuming Vick has done something wrong, of course...

A dog fighting ring woould be pathetic and disgusting...but once again indicative of lower moral standards and the "I'll do what I wanna and take what I wanna" attitude displayed about a million times a day at this point...

Oh well...Five bucks says he went to church the morning after taking part in some sh*t like this....in his finest armani suit, of course. He's so fly and icey.

If that happens, Oakland should definitely trade Moss and Porter for him.

just curious what Atlanta's out on this one is.

and who cares if a dog fighting ring is indicative of lower moral standards and such, isn't the main point the fact that it is illegal and absolutely shitty in the eyes of the fan which is certainly something that Goddell is trying to change. i could actually see goddell suspending this guy for a while if it is determined to be what it appears to be.

FYI -

The local noontime news just said Vick is NOT a suspect, is NOT believed to be involved, and is NOT being pursued in any way by police.

And the noon news also said 10 dogs, not 50.

I assume a prolonged jail sentence voids a contract due to non-work?

At least...I hope so.

If I called my boss and told him I was going to be in the slammer the next 6 months...Well...

I guess my assumption is that this is a fairly significant crime...Maybe I'm overestimating it?

my bad, i misunderstood. i took it as you saying that atlanta's out would be saying something like it wasn't vick who was to blame even though it was at his home. something along that line.

The Power of PETA

The animal rights group PETA has asked Falcons owner Arthur Blank to suspend Vick pending the investigation and "to kick him off the team if it is found that dogs on Vick's property were neglected or used for fighting." In a letter to Blank, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said it was the second time it was writing to the owner about one of his players and allegations of cruelty to animals. On Feb. 23, the organization wrote to him about defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux's felony charges in Georgia stemming from the fatal beating of a dog.
