San Antonio Mayor Eyes Saints for 2006
By Associated Press October 17, 2005, 6:19 PM CDT SAN ANTONIO -- Mayor Phil Hardberger reiterated his resolve to bring the Saints to San Antonio permanently, saying he wanted to close the deal before next season begins. Hardberger, part of a sellout crowd at the Saints-Falcons game Sunday in San Antonio, said Sunday that Saints owner Tom Benson agreed to serious talks with him, probably at the end of this season. Benson "understands that we will sit down and talk," Hardberger was quoted as saying in a story in Monday's San Antonio Express-News. "That is his desire as well. I'm pretty comfortable in saying he wants to be here." Attempts to reach Benson by telephone Monday were not successful. Team spokesman Greg Bensel declined comment. The Saints are under contract to play at the Louisiana Superdome through 2010, but certain provisions allow them to opt out before a Nov. 29 deadline. Gov. Rick Perry watched Sunday's game with Hardberger from Benson's suite and said he agrees the Saints should relocate to the Alamo City and is open to the state offering some type of financial assistance. Damage to the Superdome by Hurricane Katrina prompted the Saints to practice in San Antonio and play three games in the city's 65,000-seat Alamodome. Four other games were moved to Baton Rouge, La., where ticket sales have been sluggish. |

Are the Saints moving to San Antonio?I hear they are,its a shame but I Do understand and support the move because it would be financial suicide to remain in NO.I hope that Benson and the organization leaves the name, logo, colors and history to the city of NO in the same way as Modell did with the Browns..If they do choose another name for the team I would suggest Bandits or Wranglers and team colors of Scarlet and Silver.

Based on what I've read, if New Orleans loses the Saints they may never get another franchise. Also, I thought the NFL was itching to put a team back in LA. Why put them in San Antonio? I heard this morning on ESPN that they would probably move to LA finally. |

This is how it should look at the present:
AFC EAST Balt. Buff. NE. NY.J. AFC CENTRAL Cinc. Clev. Ind. Pit. AFC SOUTH Hou. Jax. Mia. Ten. AFC WEST Den. KC. Oak. SD. NFC EAST Car. NY.G. Phi. Was. NFC CENTRAL Chi. Det. GB. Min. NFC SOUTH Atl. St.L. N.O. TB. NFC WEST Arz. Dal. SF. Sea. Then if NO did move to LA they could just switch places with Dall. But if the Vikes moved to LA,Then the Rams would have to move to the NFC-C,Dallas would have to move to the NFC-S,And LA would be in the NFC West..but even that is a better scenerio then what they have now. And If they dont realign as above then Dallas would still be in East while LA would be in the South and St Louis in the west... The NFL Screwed up last time they realigned, lets hope they are smarter next time around. If they are going to be fare about it an try to realign the teams according to regional areas then the Boys will have to deal with it,besides they could still play those teams..Its the NFL not the DFL. If they care more about rivalries then they need to change the names of the divisions to something that doesnt imply regional..Like the Halas-Lombardi Division for the NFC Central, the Rooney-Brown Div. for the AFC Central,etc... |
