Default Any webpage designers here?
So I took a couple web page design courses when I was in school, HTML and a Dreamweaver class, a friend of mine has asked me if I could design a new website for the company he now works for, I fear it might be over my head, this is what their site currently looks like

http://james-realestate.com/

and he said he wants it to look more like this:

http://www.johnlscott.com/

how hard would this be?

With Dreamweaver for me it wouldn't be too hard but I'm pretty sure I have more experience.

Yeah I'm downloading dreamweaver right now. Hey Dana if I can't figure this out would you be interested in designing the page for him? I'm not sure how much he/his company(not sure which it would be) are planning on paying me for this but you could make a little money from it probably.

I believe Dana is our site web-page designer. I'd hire him. I, honestly, know nothing about the topic. I do know porn, however.

well that's up to Dana if he's interested, I was more interested in helping out a friend of mine than making the money, If I can find someone trustworthy who will do a better job than I will I'll be happy to hand the job over to them.

I don't think it will be too hard, but the second one is a different proposition, you have to know about CSS, Javascript and probably a language that deals with databases like .asp or php (not very easy, but not impossible to learn)

I never did graphics design but I took a year of HTML coding and a year of Dreamweaver so I'm not TOTALLY lost with it, but I don't know anything more advanced than just basic HTML, right now I'm looking at another program called "Joomla"

Well I first learned HTML back in 97. Back then there weren't too many WYSIWYG programs. I think back then I used Frontpage and Word alot. LOL

Forget dreamweaver(macromedia/ adobe dropped this for a good reason) for a start, use notepad ++ for all coding, css and xhtml. WYSIWYG programs are a big NO for any web developer, it puts unnecessary code in the page and is very bad for compliance and teaches you nothing but drag and drop.

The first site has very basic html coding (outdated a few years back) the second link has obviously database funtionality backend, php and mysql. however its very doable in a few hours, PM me or post in this thread if you need help

the styling takes a few hours at most, the coding a couple more.. you could do this within a week

Dude if you really want to help me with this I'd be really grateful, he said I'll have about a month to complete it starting 5/24 but I don't know if I should agree to do it or not, I don't want to waste their time by agreeing to it and then it being out of my league

Yeah I've never done anything other than basic HTML, but if you think I can learn this and get the project done on time I'll give it a shot.
