He loves to Apple-bash, that chap. Funny as but a strange view on technology. In a previous article, he once professed to actually like difficult to use technology. Weirdo.

This sums up the iPad quite well though.

I don't mind a bit of challenge in my software either, but iTunes does take it too far.
I'm so glad I never got on the iPod wagon for a number of reasons, but iTunes has to be the chief reason. (And the dreadful product placement that Apple seems to love doing in rap videos and Roland Emerich films)

you have trouble with iTunes??

Podborodok 05-31-2010 02:32 PM

I had incredible problems with it the first time and only time I used it.

My ego bruises easily, and the wall quickly sorted out who was the boss between me and the iPod. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/biggrin.gif

LOL!

It's actually common, I assume you're windows user? iTunes can be quite confusing at first...

Yeah, I've spent my whole life living with PC applications that don't work properly, and I'm used to it. My own beautiful status quo, and Mac applications upset that gentle balance http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/biggrin.gif

Do you think the iPad will take off?

masterboyz 05-31-2010 02:43 PM

ugh I got on the iPod wagon, until it got accidently washed. I bought a cell phone with an MP3 player in it and have never swayed.

yeah I think it will tke off. These days Apple has the security of being the defacto techno company for fashion victims. They're an accessory for many which guarantees some success at at least.

I'm planning on getting one, when I sell my MacBook. All I use it for is the internet so I may as well go for less functionality and a better experience.

the iPod has become such a fashion accessory too. I've never used any other kind, but on my old Samsung phone I had mp3s on it just like my iPhone.

I will never own an apple product just because of iTunes.

this i don't understand. It's a really easy to use app if you ask me, that does everything I need it to.

Whats the issue?

The issue is it forces you to use that specific product and download from only them. Not to mention that all of my music is ripped in WMA format and it won't work on an iPod. At one point I attempted to transfer all my music to MP4 files and I received nothing but error after error.

No thanks... I'll just stick with my Sansa that will accept all types of music files. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...milies/nod.gif

WMA? why would you want to use a wholly inferior format? It works with all the major formats, it's just WMA isn't one of them: the far majority of internet music is on mp3, AAC, AIFF or WAV.

I've never encountered any problems with it myself. I find it a handy way to play and organise my 10,000 odd songs http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif

As with anything technical though, it's all about personal preference, if you don't like how it works, use something else.

Well when I ripped them I didn't notice that Windows Media Player automatically rips in WMA format. I've changed it since, but not before I ripped over 200 CD's, and I certainly wasn't about to do it all over again.
ouch! yeah in that case then I don't blame you!

There's a guy at my job who throws his money away on all these new Apple gadgets. ipad, iphone, ipod, whatever, it's all a huge waste of money if you ask me.

I think you should really only buy these things if you have a use for them. Buying them for the sake of being cool, which so many people do, is just ridiculous.

Wma format is superior to mp3 I don't know who told you otherwise.
Mp3 is lossy and hardly high definition digital. Wma is a replica if CD

no WMA isn't superior and it'sa definitely NOT a replica of a CD. WMA is roughly equal to MP3 - neither are high def. WMA has compression too, unless you use WMA Lossless. AAC trumps them both but the best of course is AIFF (CD). At the end of the day, digital is digital, the differences, if the right settings are chosen on audio creation, are minimal. WMA does have the ability for surround sound which is a bonus. But from a consumer point of view it's rubbish because it's so small in market share.

When does a phone stop being a phone and lose it's identity?
Do you consider that good or bad?

The iPad definitely has an appeal. It does all of the thing a low cost laptop does and it plays casual games. And although I'm not an expert on it, it is approaching the concept of the "toaster" computer. The appliance that you don't really need to know anything geeky to operate. The only critique I've heard about it is that it does not run Java, instead it runs HTML5. This could be limiting on some web sites today. Who knows about tomorrow.

The reason I won't buy one is because I carry a MacBookPro with me on trips and that does everything I want including playing AAA games via Windows on Bootcamp. Due to Windows/Apple development history, all games are optimized for Windows and a small percentage of them are ported to the Mac. And the Mac ports tend to be crappy with other issues.

When Apple allowed Windows to boot on it's hardware, it made huge advances in market share so maybe game developers in the future might spend more time creating native Mac games, and I don't mean Cider (technical term).

That sounds like a personal problem http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/tongue2.gif. Most of my music I buy on CD and move it to iTunes. No problem. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif Really though DRM is the wave of here and now and will only get worse as time goes by. This is why I try to avoid Steam, a Valve online gaming server, when I can.
