Firefox 5 released.

Got a notice this morning that Firefox 5 has been released.

Looking at it this isn't a major release. They painted a 5 on what should have been 4.02 and called it a major release. Mozilla has changed it's release schedule and is planning on new versions of the product every 6 weeks. Sounds like a great way to insure bugs in the code if you ask me. The pointy-haired-bosses have taken over at Mozilla and it is very disappointing. FF 4 so far has been an amazing pile of suck and I doubt FF5 is going to be any better.

i never upgraded to FF4. The memory leak problem is something I am not willing to tolerate. I like maximum up time in my computer.

Mom uses FF4, and when I open task manager it regularly is using over 400,000 kb of resources.

Like I said. FF4 is a big pile of suck and that is why. I use it because Chrome doesn't quite do it for me and FF3 is no longer secure.

And speaking of security. If you use FF4 upgrade to 5 right now.

Still using chrome almost exclusively. One site I use once a month will not run on chrome, so I fire up firefox for that one. Removed IE, though I prefer it to firefox too.

397,360 right now on my box. Thank god I've got 8gb on this box or it would very be slow.

I use chrome.
There are a couple of mozilla based derivitives on the linux side of things I may look at for my old laptop.

I am considering switching to Chrome. It just doesn't have as robust an add on set as FF. And I am hooked on some of my add ons.

Are they trying to kill the FF brand? How can they make these releases that are such resource hogs? And why have people not walked away?

FF has always had a resource problem and people ARE walking away. Both Chrome and IE9 are gaining market share. And IE9 is actually quite good compared to it's older versions. Microsoft is slow but they are trying to get back in the game and IE 9 isn't a bad way to do it.

Chrome has addons up the wazoo.
You just have to find them.
It took me a little bit, but i'm really not missing anything these days after switching.

Chrome is great, many useful extensions, and I like the simple of syncing everything between different computers.
