They've been working on this for what...like 10 years now? I read an article a year or so ago about how the developer of the original and the subsequent attempts at producing the ultimate sequel were always a case of 'newer and better' is the enemy of good enough. A new game engine would come out, they'd buy into it and retool everything for it and then something else would happen..new video card technology or whatever. A money eating vicious cycle.
