Tennis Random, Random
So Moose starts a great new thread for tennis stuff that's just, well, stuff. Genius me has a post in Faux News that really belongs in his new thread. I move my post and see it becomes the first post instead of Moose's introduction. I figure what the hell, I'll copy, paste and then remove my post so the introductory thread is at the top.
Doofus didn't realize until the action was in progress that deleting the first post deletes the thread (I know, reading is fundamental). So if you posted in the original thread and find that it's disappeared that's my error. Sorry for the inconvenience, and I will make sure to READ before I hit a key. http://forum.talkabouttennis.com/ima...es/redface.png |
Not quite sure where to put this but According to German reports Domi has moved on from Gael who had moved on earlier in the year.
Quote: They first showed up at Austria's international soccer match against Serbia, and despite of the fact that they were posing for some photographs, Cibulkova wasn't identified. Their relationship already started at this year's USO, where the couple played the mixed competition. But New York was only the beginning of what should follow. Because in Vienna, the 19 year old Slovak did not only enjoy the soccer match, Melzer showed her his home town as well. (...) And there is another article, in which Melzer confirmed this relationship. and.. well, thats what he said about his new girlfriend. "I absolutely stick by this relationship and I'm just very happy at the moment. Dominika is a great woman, we are on the same wavelength and the two of us do really enjoy our sport! In NY we already had a good connection to each other and we went out a couple of times in Vienna, this is how our relationship was getting deeper, slowly, but obviously we went to the "wiener prater" (an amusement park^^) for example" http://www.laola1.at/128+M53bd704b410.html(German) It's also reported that during the Vienna final Domi was sitting with Melzer and Peya in Petzschner's box. Petzschner was playing Monfils. http://www.talkabouttennis.com/forum...ies/cheesy.gif The "wiener prater" huh? I just hope Radek isn't updating his list. I don't think Nicole could handle it. I did see pics of Gael with another girl during the summer but didn't know if it was a driveby or something more serious. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...es/popcorn.gif And the countdown begins... |

I'm glad we have a new piece of real estate. There are items sometimes that you want to post, but don't know where they belong. Maybe not real news, maybe a question. And maybe some good dirt. This should be bith fun and informative.
Anyway, a couple items I had for starters. 1. Anyone know if there is any trouble in Llodra/Clement Land? Mika is playing with a third different partner this week (he played with Fabrice in Moscow, Arnaud in Madrid and Andy Ram this week in Lyon). Maybe not newsworthy, other than the fact that Arnaud is also playing Lyon, with someone else. Think the argument is there that these two should be a lot more successful, and a lot higher ranked than they are. 2. Suliso actually answered my question about release of direct entry for the AO. I thought it was earlier than the traditional 6 weeks out, because of the season ending in early November. But Suliso reminded me about Challenger events. 3. Anyone know what's up with Sister B? No sightings since the 2nd round USO loss to Cornet. |
Is there a good reason why the ATP/WTA is not trying to bring top-tier tournaments to South America? There is so much money being poured into these fall tournaments in Asia, and yet, South America has traditionally been much more a powerhouse of tennis than Asia. It would seem logical to promote tennis in that part of the world. Were there any top-tier tournaments in South America previously?

Asia has way more money than South America. That's all it is ever about.

Besides they would probably want to hold them on clay and there is no more place on schedule for that... |

You gotta wonder though...what happens if Flavia does make the Top 10. She's the queen of the Tier 3 run through Mexico and S. America in the early part of the year. And she has been huge at these events, it seems, over the last few years.

I meant some of the hard court tournaments, both Tier I and Tier II levels. |

BTW has there ever been a top 20 WTA player from Brazil? |

2008: Won Vin Del Mar, Won Acapulco 2007: Semi at Bogota, Final at Acapulco 2006: Final Bogota, Final Acapulco 2005: Won Bogota, Won Acapulco Suliso and I disagree slightly on this, but I think Flavia is top 10 real soon (Suliso isn't certain she gets there by early 2009, if I recall our discussion correctly). And as such, she's going to be kept out of tournaments where she has been tremendously successful (and which could be argued are a good part of the reason she is a top 10 player) |

Speaking of International tournaments, which clay tournament do Flavia play if she reaches Top 10 when the AO is over?
