Nevertheless, I still hesitated a very long time about picking Gasquet to win this one. I'll believe it when it's done. I'm not going to underestimate Gasquet's chances to blow a match at the French Open.

In stark contrast to the women's side, I don't think there has been a single big surprise on the men's side. Sure, some of that has to do with the general evenness of the matchups on clay (Stan vs. Tsonga, Murray v. Gasquet, Del Potro v. Berdych - no possible result short of a triple bagel would be surprising in any of those matchups) but this has been an incredibly mundane and undramatic tournament on the men's side. There are like 6 people that anyone thought had any chance of winning this, and I think they're all still here. Ho-Hum...* he yawns as Rafa serves out the 2nd set at love

Raonic would have at least given Nadal something different to deal with; Monaco is easy pickings.

I feel as if I've been watching the same men's French Open each year since 2007.

Well at least there were a few people playing spoiler at times - Soderling and Melzer. I thought Raonic and Tsonga might this year, but Raonic lost before Rafa and Tsonga's play against Stan doesn't bode well for his match with Novak. Since the draw came out it's looked like Novak - Roger - David - Rafa and nine days in, it looks like....Novak - Roger - David - Rafa.

Though Ferrer has played Rafa pretty decently on clay this year. So that could be interesting.

Okay, honestly I didn't think this would be such a mismatch. Monaco's gonna finish the match with barely half the points Rafa has won, which is basically unheard-of in Grand Slam men's tennis.

I feel bad for Monaco. His strategy is to outdo Rafa, and he just can't. He has to offer something different, even if it's not in his nature.
