Lucie strikes again.

Does anyone compare to her in the "head-scratching big wins vs. inexplicable losses" category? I'm trying to think of what other players have such erratic results. Pironkova at Slams, perhaps, and Schiavone back in her pre-top 10 days are the two that spring to mind.

Ti, I need to thank you for posting this photo. Frankly, it's what warned me away from trading for Caro on my Around the World team.

(Granted, Pavs didn't get past her opening match either, but at least she cost less!)

As for the match -- caught the last couple of games and TB, thanks to ESPN3. The three winners Lucie hit in a row to win it -- hope she brings that part of her game to the next match (even if it is against Sveta).

Lucie was amazing at the end of the match. I haven't seen her hit like that in like forever.

She is looking a lot fitter I think. I saw some of her match against Kerber last week - although she lost (too many errors in the end), there were some positive signs in how she played, and Kerber going on to win the tournament cast the defeat in a decent light.

To me this is already looking like another title for Vika.

Just a brief comment on some other players. Still early days, but not a very good start to the year for Wozniacki, Zvonareva, Schiavone, Jankovic, Pavlyuchenkova, Cibulkova and (until today) Stosur.

I would hold judgement on Wozniacki but the rest of them, yes.

Think she has kind of picked up where she left off last year (actually the same probably applies to a few of the above).

Nowadays when the draws are made, I tend to think that there's a reasonable chance she'll be knocked out by the first aggressive top 20/30 player that she runs into. Whereas this time last year, I usually expected her consistency to get her into the semi-finals or better of most tournaments (especially outwith the slams).

The results are even funnier because it looks like Gael is reacting to them.

She had a great run in P5/PM from Montreal 2010-Rome 2011 winning 5 of 8 events. Since then she lost in the first round three times, once in the second round and quarter final.

Do you mean first match instead of round as she has had byes in all events but overall, point is well taken. Reason I said wait on Wozniacki is I thought we are talking about 2012. However, if we go back to last year, I would agree and I believe that her loss to Cibulkova at Wimbledon started her downhill results. At that time, Wozniacki lost serve only once in her first 8 sets(matter of fact, lost serve in her first game) but did not close Cibulkova out in straights and once in the final set, lost serve 3 times as Cibulkova put the pressure on her with her forehand.

Yeah first match. I do think Wozniacki will stay in the top 5-10 range. We will see how she does in the next few months
