Minella played Venus 1st round of USO in 2010. She indeed looked like she could be pretty solid. I think your analysis of her is spot on!
I hate to be THAT guy but she is a scrub so I feel an obligation...it was the third round. She beat Hercog and Pironkova to get there.

LOL - OOPS, I swore it was the 1st round of '10. I thought Rebecca Marino was that 3rd round match? I must have my GS' all mixed up!

It must be old age, all of the GS appearances are starting to blend together LOL.

Thanks!

Marino was round 2 for Venus that year. I remember sitting at the airport fretting over the scoreboard during that one.

Oh ok, thanks! I remember fretting over the scoreboard as well - can't quite remember where I was though ( big surprise there) LOL

I do remember during the Mandy match, that Serena was in the booth with that awful makeup

Revenge is a dish best served in Tokyo! Kirilenko took out Stosur in a roller coaster match. Kirilenko dominated the first set and was up for most of the second before double faulting away a break and then the set. She went up a break in the third before Stosur broke back for 4-4 and it looked like she would certainly win. However, she'd been pretty off all match, shanking routine balls. Kirilenko broke easily and then finally held a nervy game for the win. 6-2 4-6 6-4.

Fans of Ivanovic should check out the highlight reel of her match against Robson on the WTA site. Her over the top celebrations were way down! There were several times where she hit a winner and didn't make a noise. She seemed pleased but confident after match point. It was a very positive change in body language.

On the down side, she is far far skinnier than she was at her peak. Do players really not weigh themselves regularly? She's lost a significant amount of weight.

I'm watching Woz/Kanepi. Kanepi just took the first set 7-5!!!

Apparently Kanepi has been out with an achilles tendon injury. She has gotten CRAZY fit! I can't believe how thin she is. She's trying to finish the points early and is having some mental lapses, but overall is playing some amazing tennis. I really think she could blast her way into the top ten in the next year if she stays healthy.

Wozniacki, to her credit, is hitting the ball much harder than usual. She's even been hitting some aces this tournament. She's basically just getting blasted off the court. She doesn't seem to be positive of what to do. I'm not sure she has any kind of match strategy.

It should be fun to see what happens next.
