That BBC article brings up an interesting point. It mentions that clay is "widely considered" to be Kim's worst surface. I never really got that. She's been in 2 French finals, her movement really helps her out and it's not like she's a grass court lock or anything. I know she herself hasn't expressed a ton of love for the clay surface in recent years. Is that what they mean?
I see it two ways. First, Kim is SO exceptional on a hardcourt that any other surface naturally is going to pale in comparison. Second, Kim has had some real headscratchers on clay--like accidentally losing to Lindsay at RG (quarters?). And the first time she made to RG final and lost a barnburner to Capriati, she went into the French with hardly any match wins at the prep events. So that result seemed to come out of nowhere.

And Pironkova gets her requisite 32nd seed at a Grand Slam.
Don't worry, we'll get a nice break after Wimbledon. I would be surprised to see her in the top 35 for another few years.

Grass is definitely her worst surface, but I understand them saying clay is because it's her least favorite. You can't expect to win on a surface when you keep acting like it stood you up for a second date.

The fact is that no one has suffered more from Venus Williams' injury and absence from the tour than Tsvetana Pironkova. It's hard to win matches when the only player you can beat isn't around.

Does "no way Tommy Haas is playing" count as "personal reason"?

Seriously, if Donald is next in line, but refuses to play qualies, would he still get the next position directly into the draw if someone in the main draw pulls out prior to qualifying beginning?

EDIT: Just checked, and now Bogomolov is shown as the #1 seed for Qualies. So Donald and Matthias Bachinger are either out, or looking at the main draw.

This made me laugh. Thank you.

There are some Tweets flying about that Gonzo is out (which will help explain in part how Bogomolov is now #1 seed in qualies), but nothing official yet.

Would Gonzo have to play the quals?
