Remember the Kim that accidentally lost to Davenport up a set and a break at the French? Remember the Kim that won a single game off Petrova at the AO? Yeah, well she's making a guest appearance.
She was up 6-3 5-2 and had two match points. Rus is now serving up an insurance break at 4-1 in the third. I'm sure Azarenka, Sharapova, and Petkovic are texting each other to see which car they should buy her if she pulls out the win. |

I'm shocked. Even at 1-5 0-30 I thought she might be able to pull a rabbit out of a hat like she did against Ivanovic at Miami. She saved a match point at 30-40 and got to AD twice. All credit to Rus. She did not even come close to blinking, and she had plenty of opportunities. Serving at 1-4 she went down 0-30 but stayed calm. When she lost match point and was down an AD she stayed calm. Very impressive stuff.
This is another chapter in the "Kim is now an exact clone of Serena Williams" book. "Hey guess what? I didn't play a single clay match, but I am so good that people will call me the favorite any way. Whoops!" |

Is any American man really upset when they lose on clay? Is any American man really upset with the scheduling of tournaments when they take the whole spring off? Something about spending the spring in Europe as a 20 something year old just doesn't seem to be a bad thing to me. WTF is wrong with USTA regarding this? I say if you don't make an effort in the spring(monaco, barc. madr. rome), you're not allowed any appearance fee money the rest of the year.
