Melzer: non-factor

Soderling: could be interesting, but what has Soderling done since Wimbledon? (I honestly don't know)
He managed to lose to Roddick in Cincy in three sets after outplaying him for most of the match. Roddick then beat Djokovic easily in quarters and blew a huge lead against Fish in the semi, so Soderling missed a great chance to get to the final with that loss.

Who do y'all like as semifinalists? I think Nadal and Fed will both get there without too much trouble. I'm drinking the Murray kool-aid despite a potentially tricky draw. What about the Djokovic quarter? In my mind that's basically a toss up between Novak, Andy, and Mardy.

Federer is about the only Semifinalist that I'm confident in.

Nadal should get through, but could easily be stopped by whomever (Lopez, etc). The masters were not exactly that comforting. Maybe an in-form Nalbandian has the best shot at him. Best of five may help Nadal enough to come through, though.

Murray has a really tricky quarter and Berdych is a big possibility with his recent slam runs. Best of five seems kinder to Tomas than best of three... maybe it gives him more of a chance to recover from any lapses.

Djokovic has not been convincing and there are a number of good players in his quarter too. Baghs has been great this season, but may have run out of steam? I don't think he should have played Pilot Pen. Fish has also looked great and did take the week off. Roddick is a question mark... dunno about him unless he decides to play aggressively again. He's been too defensive the times I've seen him recently, but that is probably influenced by mono lethargy? If not for the questions, I'd pick Roddick, though.

My two cents.

The optimist in me says that Roddick is desparate to make a good showing to finish the year, maybe get into the ATP finals (not sure how the points fall to make that happen). The pessimist in my says "Fish again? Crap."

My heart says Roger, but my head says...Roger too! lol

Seriously, IMO will be a top four affair in the semis, maybe just one of them will miss the appointment!

I'm hoping for a Rafa v Roger final but I think Fish and Murray could both make it. I've written my thoughts about it all here www.allballsallowed.wordpress.com.
I think whatever happens it is going to be a very exciting tournament, I'm particularly looking forward to Fish v Baghdatis : )
