Who is the highest ranked player you've never heard of?
 

I was looking through the ATP rankings trying to see who my BOTB ranking double was (Jesse Witten), and I noticed a few players I had never heard of. So I started looking up the rankings to see how high I would go before I was able to recognize every player above a certain number.

On the ATP side, I got as high as 70 (Alexander Dolgopolov of Ukraine). I'm sure I've probably seen his name before, in Kandi's Challenger thread if nowhere else, but I had no conscious awareness of this guy before now.

Although I don't follow the WTA as much as ATP, I was able to recognize the top 127. The first woman who stumped me was 128 (Johanna Larsson of Sweden).

How about you? How far can you go down the rankings until you meet a ???? (I used the rankings on the WTA and ATP sites for reference)

I'm going to go with Pere Riba at 101 for the ATP. There were a few others in there that I'd only heard of (like Dogopolov) and have never watched play. Johanna Larson would be mine as well for WTA.

I think we did this more than a year ago, and i think Pere Riba might have been mine at the time (he or whoever it was were around 160).

This time, it's #156, Albert Ramos-Vinolas. The next one was 177 Carlos Salamanca

But there were several I've only barely heard of, too, like Blaz Kavcic (#100)


It was also #156 for the WTA! (Anna Floris). Next one was Mandy Minella #186

For the men, I would have to go with Albert Ramos-Vinolas also.....I follow the women much more closely so it took a little longer but I'm gonna have to go with So-jung Kim (#255)

You guys are more into this than I am. I only had to go down to Stephane Robert (65 ATP) and Anastasija Sevastova (63 WTA). No wonder I suck in the Suicide Pools.

I got the same two...although there are a few on each side I only know from predictions/contests.

The funny thing...Robert wound up my BotB ranking twin! What are the odds?

I don't think I've seen the name Ilia Marchenko (#85) before or Valerie Tetreault (#116). Looking at the rankings, I'm also surprised at how high some players are (Ferrero, Haas) and how low some others are (Almagro, Kohlschreiber)...

I would have had the exact same person on the WTA if she hadn't just "upset" Ivanovic at Indian Wells.

For the ATP, I'm another Albert Ramos-Vinolas. Then Julian Reister is just a few behind him (154, 157) and I've never heard of him, either.

On the WTA, Kai-Chen Chang (91) is a player from Chinese Taipei who I've not heard of.

ATP (it helped that I've just gone through some names for TSiP)
90 - Lorenzi Paolo
100 - Kavcic Blaz

WTA
62 - Sevastova (uncertain if I had ever heard of her)
67 - Kulikova

Weren't you with us (Bea and Mr. Bea) when we went to watch Kleybanova at Wimbledon for a bit? She was playing (and losing to) Kulikova.

On the ATP, I'm going with #90 Paolo Lorenzi (ITA)

For WTA, #137 Anna Lapushchenkova (RUS)
