Yani is becoming what Caro was in 2009, which is what Jelena was in 2008.

2 thoughts when looking at the entry list:

1) Is Serena really going to play? This isn't a grand slam or a warm up to a grand slam

2) Didn't this event used to draw more top 10 players?

Did you follow which tournaments she played last year?

Excluding most of the warm up events, which she played, she played Paris last year, along with Dubai, Miami, and Beijing, all of which aren't warm up events.

1. I do not think so. She played last year but w/d before starting her SF match with Elena.

2. I believe so. Its a shame only 2 Top 10 players are scheduled. Guess AO and playing Fed Cup this weekend may have something to do with it.

And then there's always Roadkill.

This is another event that used to be a prime stop on the WTA tour, even if it was only a Tier II event. Now it's just, well, something much less. In fairness, the demise of women's tennis in France may be a big part of it. Look... There are only two French women in the main draw entry list.

Missing Amelie. And Pierce.

Yeah, I think it's Roadkill not other commitments that's limiting top 10 participation

As expected, Serena is out. She has that NFL owner meeting.

No surprise there. Wonder what reason was given.

Leg injury

"I am unable to play the Open GDF Suez this year due to a leg injury which I have been struggling with since the Australian Open"

"Paris is one of my favorite city and I sincerely hope to return to play next year. I wish the tournament a great week and I would like to thank all my French fans for their support."

Wished she would have said that for not playing Fed Cup instead of owners meeting.

I don't know why they asked her in the first place during AO press conference. If Serena is playing Fed Cup the WORLD will know . No need to ask her

All things considered, this is a pretty solid draw.

I'm bummed that Lucie and Tamira drew eachother. Good luck to all my girls!

Shahar has once again made some noise, and is definitely among the small number of "hot hands" in this draw. A solid week (and I think she has the potential for a good week with this draw), and she might be back in the Top 20 next week.
