I didn't see the match live, but I have seen several YOUTUBE videos which range from one with subtitles, in which she calls the lines person "you fat ugly gook" (horrible, but I think unlikely) to just raw video of the last minutes of the match. In none I have been able to hear her say "please" at any moment.

She was NOT defaulted, the title is misleading. She was given a code violation and a point penalty.

She should be forced to play doubles with Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez or maybe Nicole Vaidisova at every tournament she enters next year and donate all winnings to the newly formed Serena Williams Calming Lessons Center.

So basically a Calm Period.

I know who's going to be teaching there...

I know, mmmm8. But if I were to write "The Serena Code Violation and Point Penalty on Match Point. What should the ITF/WTA do?" as a title, people would probably fall asleep half through the title. If you want to edit the title to be more accurate, I would actually appreciate it.

Thomas Johansson or some other catatonic player who can win a slam and merely smile.

She was penalized for her behavior. This suffices. If the governing bodies want to introduce a new set of standards and rules then I'm okay with that. They should be go forward rules and standards.

I'd like to see this one fade away.

Of course, they could just penalize her by making her play Indian Wells every year.

I think 10k in this case is a joke of a fine, but any kind of suspension would be too harsh imo.

So, i guess I am in higher fine, no suspension category then.

She already got fined the maximum allowed.

Accuracy should always trump sensationalism. Hopefully the title is amended soon. Anyways, in my opinion, even talk of suspension is ridiculous.

TenK is the maximum fine and she was also fined 500 for racket abuse.

I know. Btw, I think racquet abuse (although those are fun at times ) should also be higher than 500. Seriously, these fines make no difference and incentive whatsoever.

It would be like me paying 1 dollar for every speeding ticket.

I think it's time to let it die. Also, that lineswoman had that kind of smug face that would make almost anyone want to shove a tennis ball down her throat.

"I want to amend my press statement of yesterday, and want to make it clear as possible - I want to sincerely apologize FIRST to the lines woman, Kim Clijsters, the USTA, and tennis fans everywhere for my inappropriate outburst. I'm a woman of great pride, faith and integrity, and I admit when I'm wrong.

"I need to make it clear to all young people that I handled myself inappropriately and it's not the way to act -- win or lose, good call or bad call in any sport, in any manner.

"I like to lead by example. We all learn from experiences both good and bad. I will learn and grow from this, and be a better person as a result."

Actually, Drop, she got fined the maximum allowed for an "on-site" fine. The Grand Slam committee, which has jurisdiction over this now, and is conducting the "investigation" has the power to fine her (at least, this part is where it gets murky) her entire winnings, which is $350,000.00

Very good Serena. I'm glad you dumped the PR rep that issued the initial statement, and got the right people working on this now went the extra step.

As long as they don't force her to tweet, I don't care.
