It's the fact that she said she was "the best". She clearly is not, and she definitely knows it. If she had said "top-ranked", I'd feel more sympathy.

At least she came up with a reason.

Kolya Davydenko has just finished his interview to Russian TV. He wasn't exactly complaining, because he smiled nicely all the time, so let's call it "he described some problems". He said that regardless of what organizers stated, all the courts in the US Open played differently. And a player who is placed in one and the same court has an advantage. Kolya played three rounds in 3 courts: Nos.4, 7 and 11. So he played 3 matches on 3 different surfaces, and every match was like the 1st one for him in terms of feeling the surface.

When asked whether he preferred playing against Soderling or Querrey, he said that he'd rather play against Soderling whom he hated, than vs Querrey, because there's a very good chance that Sod's match will be placed in Court 11, while Querrey's match will be definitely placed in one of the bigger courts.

Then his smile broadened to its extremity, and he said: "You want somebody to lose? Relocate him to a different court. From Ashe to Armstrong, for example". The next question was: "Are you speaking about Dinara?". The answer was: "Is that what they did to her? No, I was thinking about last year semifinals". Thanks to my friend Helen for this...and for Kolya backing up what many said about last years storm tossed semi final.

BTW he's set to play on Armstrong tomorrow.

WOW, Tina I stand on opposite sides of the ranking controversy but I must say I agree 100% with your post.

I just wish everyone would shut up and maybe with less pressure Dinara can figure this out. I'm not a fan but clearly the ranking system was not created by her and she should not be blamed for it.

Sorry if this is obvious, but was this directed at the decision to play the match on Armstrong (where I assume nadal hadn't played before) in the first place or the decision to finish it on Ashe?

Not an obvious Tina. He was talking about the original decision to move the match. There were a lot of people who were surprised that play for the day wasn't cancelled forcing everyone into the same situation the following day. It's doubly ironic that the reason they gave for moving Dinara is that the winner of the men's match has to play Federer next and he was resting at his hotel since about 2p.

Dinara is in a very bad situation and I guess it's easier to focus on the antics of the USTA than on what happened on court but I believe that when Venus and the other player insisted on the original order/schedule of play they caught a lot of heat for that especially from the broadcast booth.

Many of the Europeans have had beef with the US Open for many years now, going back to 2003.

She never said she is the best. There was nothing unfair.
