Nadal's parents separating?

It almost seems that this rumor is confirmed now: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/spo...cle6558058.ece http://forum.talkabouttennis.com/ima...lies/frown.png

Right now, such sensitive matters are on the mind of Nadal, at home in Majorca. For many weeks there have been whispers that all was not uncomplicated in the Nadal household, that his parents, Sebastian and Ana Marķa, who hugged their son on the most joyous day of his life a year ago, had separated. Yesterday, we discovered that that was, in fact, the case, that Nadal had been playing in such a fog for the past couple of months, he should have been wearing luminous clothing. He is crushed and any fair-minded person has to be crushed for him.

Imagine what it has been like, trying to do your duty by yourself, your team and your profession and yet having to perform when your heart is elsewhere, the distressing nightly calls home, the wish that it were not so, the desire for a reconciliation.

Nadal never mentioned it, he played and hoped. He talked about resetting his body after having to withdraw from the championships with problem knees and yet he has a more difficult task, resetting his entire life. We wish him well. What a nightmare it must be for him, if this is all true!

Sad...

I think sometimes there is "behind the scenes" stuff that explains results that had earlier left us scratching our heads. Sorry to hear this news.

OMG, Jon and Kate and now these people?!?! How am I supposed to deal???

freddystone 06-23-2009 01:34 AM

That is, in a word, shitty. http://forum.talkabouttennis.com/ima...lies/frown.png

Poor Rafa! One more thing for him to deal with. http://forum.talkabouttennis.com/ima...lies/frown.png

Back in '05, for the WTA Year End, Kim showed up one day before the event, and played like she could have given less of a crap. She sounded standoffish and sorta pissy in interviews. She brushed it all off to a long year, and being tired, even though she hadn't played in a number of weeks. This was the same Kim that pretty much owned 2005, and who was probably the most accessible, and readily cooperative interview subject in the WTA. The losses made no sense.

A week later, Lei and Els separation was made public.

He is quite young and so family-oriented, and, regardless, if true, must be devastating http://forum.talkabouttennis.com/ima...lies/frown.png

Absolutely. Family oriented is putting it mildly. He still lives at home, too. It must seem like his world is coming apart.

It may not be such a bad thing, I couldn't wait for my parents to get divorced.

Maybe in the long run he'll come to regard this with a more positive perspective but right now I think this is, for him, one rung below losing a parent.

hi i don't know where the news come from and if they are true, because nothing is in the spanish press, whether it's the sports, or people... i'll as my mum, she lives in spain.
but it's strange that the spanish press so fond of drama could just leave alone rafa's family...
but harman is a good journalist and he must have heard something we don't, i hope he heard wrong gossips. if it's true, rafa's life is going to be tough, all knees appart.

That's why I think TAT is so great. This story has been gossiped about for months (since Miami, really) but glad to see it not being discussed here until a real news source published it.

That said, it's been enough of a story for long enough, and I don't see Neil Harman writing this unless it's confirmed to be true. Rafa must be just a mess - so sorry for him.

Now, since this story is out, all of us tennis fans and media need to give Rafael lots of space so he can deal with it in private.
