The group allegedly plotted to bomb two New York synagogues and wanted to use surface-to-air missiles to fire at U.S. military planes, said a criminal complaint filed this week in White Plains, New York.

The four men were arrested Wednesday after they had planted the fake bombs at the synagogue in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, New York, authorities said.

The NYPD used an 18-wheeler truck to block their getaway, then punched out the tinted windows on their sport-utility vehicle before dragging the suspects onto the street, said Kelly.

During that meeting, Cromitie allegedly said his parents live in Afghanistan, that he was angry over the U.S. war there, and that he was interested "doing something to America."

The four men began meeting with the informant at a home equipped with concealed video and audio equipment, plotting to bomb the synagogue and Jewish community center, the statement said.

They also conducted surveillance, including photographs, of an Air National Guard base where they wanted to blow up planes, the statement said. The informant provided the men with a surface-to-air guided missile and C-4 plastic explosives -- none of which could actually be used.

I especially like the 'Against America' part. A synagogue in Riverdale is 'against America?' the editorial staff of DailyKOS and Salon would be furious to hear there are actually Jews in America.......

Another wakeup call for Obama. If terror suspects from Gitmo were sent to a US prison then no doubt the human rights lobby would go to court to oppose their segregation from other prisioners as being in breach of their human rights.

New York rabbi, iman denounce violence after bomb plot exposed

Two New York-area religious leaders, Muslim cleric Shamsi Ali and Orthodox Rabbi Marc Schneier, issued a joint condemnation of violence Thursday after authorities arrested four men over a plot to bomb local Jewish centers.

Imam Ali, the head of Islamic Culture Center of New York, one of the largest Islamic centers in the U.S. called on "Muslim leaders to stand firm against the forces of evil."

He added that any terror attack acted out in the name of Islam represented a distortion of the Holy Koran.

Rabbi Schneier, the director of the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding as well as the Chairman of the American Section of the World Jewish Congress, echoed Ali's condemnation.

"It is reassuring to hear the voices of Muslim leaders speaking hard in solidarity with the Jewish community and unequivocally condemning acts of terrorism and violence," he said.

And the warrant can be obtained up to 72 hours after the actual wiretapping takes place to allow for last minute emergencies.

Another terrorist attack is prevented so it will be forgotten soon.

This group was under suspicion since summer 2008.

The bureau has been criticized by the right for not employing or promoting torture. Torture was not employeed in this case.

Yeah - they basically monitored certain people trying to by Stingers.

It does however seem like the agent did a good deal of the work and one wonders how far these losers would have been able to go if they were provided with a bomb.

They sound pretty clueless.

Their lawyer will probably explore the entrapment angle. The question is, how much of what they did was the result of the FBI agent's actions? If that agent becomes the only variable, then it is damaging to the case.

Suppose for example the agent cooked up the plot, endoctrinated the men, brainwashed them to do his bidding, built the bomb and told them exactly what to do. Then but for that agent, there probably couldn't have been a crime. That's an extreme example, but essentially the same thing has happened in the past.
